In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alyssa Belcher

Alyssa Belcher is 17 years old and a senior at Butler High. Ever since she was little, she enjoyed creative writing and used it as a tool to destress. In her spare time, she likes to learn choreography for various East Asian pop songs and perform with her dance group at various conventions! She is aiming to pursue East Asian Studies in college and work in foreign affairs and translating.

Carissa Ritzler

Carissa Ritzler is a senior from the Dayton Regional STEM School, and a student dedicated to the field of science. She is highly interested in computers and technology and is excited to share with you her story about #stem and #womeninstem.

Caroline Delany

Caroline Delaney is 17 years old and is a senior at Chaminade Julienne High School. She enjoys reading, acting, and riding horses. She is also a part of the Improv troupe at CJ and will be attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio to study neuroscience. She is very excited and proud to be able to share her experience with anxiety with you today.

Clare Ashcraft

Clare Ashcraft is a freshman at the Dayton Regional STEM School. She enjoys reading, writing, and photography. She participates in science fair, Destination Imagination, and Key Club. After high school, Clare plans to go to college and study philosophy. She encourages teens to understand the #powerofadollar and help #stopsweatshops.

Danika Vrtar

Danika Vrtar is a sixteen year-old asexual and plays hockey, writes, and draws, and takes Japanese at SinClair. Danika loves gaming and enjoys games such as Skyrim, Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, and Undertale. Currently a homeschooled student, Danika hopes to become a computer engineer and attend UD for college.

Dayton Dance Conservatory Company

Dayton Dance Conservatory Company (DDCC) was established in 2014. Artistic Directors Audra Kucharski and Kandee Thacker-Mann had a vision of creating a nonprofit pre-professional youth dance company that would continue to proliferate and sustain the art of dance in Dayton and the surrounding areas. DDCC strives to cultivate young, aspiring professional dancers through education and repertoire which challenges technique, artistic depth, and creativity. DDCC members seek to continue oral and visual traditions, and instill the value of performing arts within the community.

Jessica Miller

Jessica lives in Tipp City and attends Tippecanoe High School as a senior. On January 21, 2017 she participated in the Women’s March in Dayton and has since then took to explaining her journey to activism. Jessica enjoys activities that allow her to explore her passions in art, music, literature, and service.

Kennedy Cook

Kennedy Cook is a 12th Grader at Stivers School for the Arts. She has been at Stivers for six years, where she is the Vice President of her choir. Kennedy is also a part of a local girl group called ‘Wiiildflower.’No matter what Kennedy is doing she always hopes that she can inspire and make a difference in someone’s life.

Laura Fink

Laura Fink is currently a senior at Tippecanoe High School. Outside of her classes, she is a four-year varsity member/team captain of the cross country team and a four-year choir member. She has written multiple pieces for her school’s literary journal, one of which became the inspiration for her TED talk. Next year, she is planning on majoring in biology with a minor in French and an interest in pursuing pre-medicine.

Neeti Prasad

Neeti Prasad is a freshman at Dayton Regional STEM School who loves doing science experiments and robotics as much as rowing and dancing. She is very passionate about educating kids and her early teaching experience dates back to when she was 10 years old and her two students were between the ages of three-six! She is also a 2017 Broadcom MASTERS Semifinalist (Top 300) for her innovative science fair project: "Harvesting Solar Energy and Body Heat Using Thermoelectric Generators."

Shawn Gardner

Shawn Gardner is a seventeen-year-old junior at Stivers School for the Arts, born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. From an early age he has been drawn to public speaking, with his first encounter happening in second grade where he participated in his first speech contest. He loves writing poetry and short stories and wants to be a novelist when he grows up.

Steve McIntosh

Steve McIntosh is a senior at The Miami Valley CTC where he is in the Game Programming & Web Applications class. He recently led a team to compete in the Miami Valley Teen Coding Challenge, where they took 1st place for “Project Bloodhound”, an NFC based tracking system. He enjoys programming, especially in Java, and solving problems. He hopes to move forward into software development or cyber security.

Trinity Thomas is a senior at Stivers School for the Arts. She began performing spoken word at the age of twelve and has always loved to write. Trinity is active in her school and community and plans to major in Journalism and Creative Writing in college.

Yash Gupta

Yash Gupta is currently an eleventh grader at The Miami Valley School. Yash has been involved in music since he was 6 and has been a vocal percussionist/beatboxer for about 3 years now. He is also a part of Ars Nova, his high school’s a cappella group.
