In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ash Ali

Born to working-class immigrant parents in the crime-riddled inner city of Birmingham, a 19 year-old with only a rucksack, a head full of dreams and no degree arrives in London for a job in digital. A few years later, he is the first marketing director of a scrappy young startup that turns into the UK’s largest tech IPO of the last decade - floating for £1.5 billion on the London Stock Exchange. That was me, and the startup was food-ordering tech giant Just Eat.

Navshika Beeharry

Navshika Beeharry juggles a busy life of being a public sector policy advisor, traveller and blogger with a passion for undertaking pro bono missions on behalf of African NGOs. Navshika undertakes voluntary work that aims to review and end the foreign aid dependency that many charitable organisations are trapped in, by sharing stories of people and projects overseas that those living in the UK can join in solving. In 2015, Navshika was selected to volunteer in Tanzania as part of the government’s International Citizen Service programme. Since returning she has fought against the traditional and competitive international development career path by becoming unemployed in her wait to find paid work. Taking matters into her own hands, this has inspired her decision to independently engage with organisations through the power of social media and networking. Over the past year alone, Navshika has travelled to Canada, Holland, Ireland and Togo and worked with the likes of VSO, Restless Development, RESULTS UK, Kailend and ‘Project Everyone’ – a charity founded by Richard Curtis (British Film Writer and Director).

Sahil Shah

Sahil is a co-founder and director of Sustainable Seaweed, a company scaling offshore seaweed farming around the UK to clean the oceans, capture excess CO2 and provide a long term healthy, sustainable food source. Vanita Patel

Born in Uganda, she has lived and worked in England since the early 1970s, trained as a teacher, married with children (and now grandchildren) and supported her family business. For the past 22 years she has been volunteering for Anti Slavery International and other NGOs working to eradicate modern slavery, in the role of raising awareness and a fundraising champion. Her key skill in events management has been the ability to source most fundraising components free of charge, or at highly reduced costs, and to persuade people to give their products, services and time freely, to a cause which depends heavily on philanthropy and good will. She strongly believes that as responsible educators we know that raising awareness is a powerful tool in affecting mainstream perceptions which can bring about positive changes in the lives of people stranded in the misery of slavery and poverty. She has extensive networking experience in both the private, public and third sectors, utilising excellent interpersonal and communication skills and has the ability to liaise effectively with people from varying backgrounds and cultures whilst having the ability to enable, challenge and ensure credibility for those around her while improving the perception of the movement for anti-slavery internally and externally.
