Silesians, what are you proud of? What have you achieved over the years? You’re going to find it out during our very special event: TEDxKatowiceSalon: Be Proud! which will be held during Europejski Kongres MŚP - European Congress of Small and Medium – Size Enterprises. This meeting is decidated to English speakers and foreigners who live or spend some time in Katowice and would like to know more about Silesia region. Katowice and its area hides values you have never even heard about before. We would like to show you different perspective and prove that Silesia is not about coal and Silesian potato dumplings (which are amazing anyway!). Our area is about something more - it’s about history, identity and people who made us who we are today.

❌ ❌ Who are the speakers?
1. Natalia Jakóbiec was born in Katowce and is a designer and a lover of industiral heritage. She is a founder of the design studio Wzorro Design.
2. Maciej Swoboda works in Netizens Digital Innovation House since 2005, currently as a Business Development Director. His work is dedicated to make a strong representation of the company at the trade fairs, conferences and tech-like events as a speaker and attendee.
3. Jeff Shiffman - originally from USA but lives in Katowice, rugby coach in Silesia Miners team. Currently, Jeff is lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the band "Box Canyon".
4. Paweł Nowak is an independent service and experience design consultant focused on solving people’s problems through empathy, collaboration and wise use of design and technology. In 2010 he has founded and started coordinating World Usability Day Silesia – the biggest non-profit conference about User Experience Design in Poland.

Aleksander Sieroń

doctor, academic professor

prof. Aleksander Sieroń is a promient Polish doctor, professor with academic recognition similar to an associate professor or senior lecturer. His is a head of the Department of Internal Medicine, Angiology and Physical Medicine. He graduated from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice and the Faculty of Medicine at the Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice. He is a specialist in internal medicine, cardiology, angiology, hypertension, balneology and physical medicine. He is the author of 498 scientific articles, including 78 foreign articles (67 articles in journals from the ISI Master Journal List)

Jeff Shiffman

a professional voice actor, coach of American football team, lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the band,

Jeff Shiffman was born in New York. He attended Gannon University, where he majored in Theatre. Upon graduation, Jeff had worked for Patagonia Outdoor Clothing and Gear. In 2006, Jeff moved to Poland, which he says was the best decision of his life. Upon arriving in Katowice, Jeff hit the ground running both personally and professionally. He started working at an university and at a number of private language schools where he developed a unique teaching style that focuses on the students’ creativity and improvisation, ideas borrowed from his Theatre background. He also works as a professional voice actor. Jeff has had many great experiences here in Silesia. After playing American football in 2007 for the local Silesia Miners, Jeff returned to coach the team in 2009, leading them to their first and only National Championship. Currently, Jeff is leader for band ‘Box Canyon’. The group Has performed all over Poland. Jeff currently lives in Czeladź with his wife and son.

Paweł Nowak

an independent service and experience design consultant, lecturer, founder and coordinator World Usability Day Silesia

Paweł Nowak is an independent service and experience design consultant focused on solving people’s problems through empathy, collaboration and wise use of design and technology. In 2010 he has founded and started coordinating World Usability Day Silesia – the biggest non-profit conference about User Experience Design in Poland. Since 2014, Paweł is also working as a lecturer and mentor in the UX design faculty at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. After work, together with his friends, he engages in non-profit projects where we use design to solve social problems.
