TEDxXIMB shares it vision with TED and TEDx and aims to uphold the same passion and commitment to ideas in and around the academics, business and social circles in Odisha. The first version of TEDxXIMB was held in 2012 and it witnessed an amalgamation of some of the finest ideas giving a new outlook to today’s society. In line with the same concept of bringing out ideas shaping the world and the nation, the next version was held in 2015 and the latest one in 2016. They all proved to be exciting, interesting and inspiring platforms for sharing ideas.

This year again, XIMB, Xavier University shall host the fourth version of TEDxXIMB. The event like its previous versions promises to be a medium to share the ideas that are expected to reflect and let the society, the nation and the world evolve into a better place. Be there to witness TEDxXIMB 2017 on the 15th of January 2017.

Anand Ranganathan

Author, Columnist and Scientist
Anand Ranganathan obtained his BSc (Hons) degree in Chemistry from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi after which he left on a Nehru Centenary Scholarship for Cambridge, UK, where he obtained his BA (Tripos) in Natural Sciences, his MA, and his PhD. After a post-doctoral stint at Cambridge, Anand returned to India to join International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Delhi where he ran his lab for 16 years. In 2015 he joined Special Centre for Molecular Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, as an Associate Professor. His laboratory works in the area of Directed Evolution and Pathogenesis, with special emphasis on Tuberculosis and Malaria. Anand Ranganathan is a Consulting Editor of the popular webzine Newslaundry, for which he has been writing weekly columns since 2012, on Politics, Humour, Satire, Science, Health, and court judgments. He has also written two books, both novels: The Land of the Wilted Rose (Rupa, 2012) and more recently For Love and Honour

Anwesh Sahoo

LGBT Icon and Activist
Anwesh is the reigning Mr. Gay World India 2016, and at twenty the youngest holder of the title. He also happened to be the youngest delegate at the International pageant and a finalist at Mr. Gay World 2016. Anwesh is an Engineering student at IIIT, Delhi and besides writing actively since age 18 on Queer awareness and related issues, he’s an illustrator and a lover of old-school Indian art, music, dance and fashion. He's currently working on a campaign called 'Fitting Out' that encourages people to accept their originality and step out of the hetero-normative gender binary.

Jagi Panda

Media Entrepreneur
Ms Jagi Manat Panda is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Ortel Communications Ltd., a medium sized company in the broadband telecom space, and its spinoff, Odisha TV, the first private sector Odia language television channel in Odisha. She was the chairperson of Confederation of Indian Industry(CII)’s Odisha State Council for 2 years (2001-02,2002-03).The World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2007 had chosen Ms Panda as a YOUNG GLOBAL LEADER for its annual list of 250 up and coming leaders under the age of 40 from around the world. To promote women education in the state, she initiated a project “Ortel Dayitwa” providing scholarships for higher education for girls. Starting from scratch and building up a business with 2500 employees, Ms Panda has been acknowledged in eastern India as a role model for women entrepreneurs.

Khorda Paika Akhada

Perfroming Arts
The word paika comes from the Sanskrit word “padatika” meaning infantry. "Akhada" or akhara refers to a training hall or a school. Paika akhadas in former times served as the training schools of the peasant militia in Odisha. Kharavela of ancient Kalinga(Odisha) relied on the military might of the paika in his campaigns. The paikas reached their zenith of power during the Gajapati Dynasty and were known as far as Indonesia Today's paika akhadas are used for practicing the traditional physical exercises in addition to the PAIKA DANCE, a performance art which has a martial art character with rhythmic movements and weapons being hit in tune to the beating of drums. It incorporates acrobatic maneuvres and use of the khanda (straight sword), patta (guantlet-sword), sticks, and other weapons. The main purpose behind this dance is to enhance physical excitement and to develop inner courage.

Qaushiq Mukherjee (Q)

Q is an filmmaker, rapper and general troublemaker. His films have been premiered at festivals like Berlinale, Sundance, Seattle, London and won several awards. His subjects and form has raised eyebrows and sparked debates. His unique team, Oddjoint, pioneered resource management and co-production in Indian independent films. Q is serious about fun.

Raul Rodriguez

Criminal Intelligence Officer
Raul Villamarin Rodriguez, a Spanish national, is a Criminal Intelligence Officer at Interpol, a Certified Master Anti-Terrorism Specialist and a Counterterrorism Consultant at Mossad. Voted Asia's top expert in the science of detecting deception, he has an impressive career profile, including experience in analysing several international terrorism outfits such as ISIS and Boko Haram. He also provides training and consulting services for government agencies and large corporations. If that wasn’t enough, he co-founded IRIANS, a research institute dedicated to studying neuroscience in 2008. This TEDx, sneak a peek into the world of fraud analysis, criminal profiling and emotional footprinting.

Sarath Davala

Basic Income Expert
Sarath Davala is a sociologist with a doctorate from Delhi University. He was an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore for seven years, and then found his calling in the rural India. For the past 15 years, he has worked with various rural organizations as a research and development consultant. He has worked for 20 years with Self Employed Women's Association, a women workers trade union in India with two million members. He was the Research Director of the Basic Income pilot project that was initiated by SEWA and UNICEF during 2010-14. He is the co-author of “Basic Income: A Transformative Policy for India?”, published by Bloomsbury, London in 2015. In 2015, along with a group researchers, he founded the India Network for Basic Income (INBI) which now has about 100 members. He is currently devoting much of his time to build INBI, and also an Asia Network for promotion of Basic Income.

Suvankar is a serial social entrepreneur and CEO of eKutir Global. Pioneering sustainable, tech-driven, social impact solutions in low Income markets, eKutir’s micro-entrepreneurship business model works across agriculture, WASH and food & nutrition to fuel job creation, prosperity and livelihoods for the poorest communities. His leadership in eKutir paved ways to impact more than 100,000 people in India by establishing 500+ digitally trained entrepreneurs to increase incomes through farming, be food secured, have access to basic sanitation systems, and build a tech-enabled ecosystem to tackle poverty. Suvankar has received fellowships from Intel Capital and GKPF, is Executive alum with Stanford, Harvard, and UPenn.
