With a passion for story telling and exploring the world around him Adam firmly believes that every human has a duty to leave this world in a better state than when they arrived in it by leaving an impact on the world and, by the same token, letting this world impact us. Alberto Martinez
Alberto is an artist, well known for his surreal approach to painting cityscapes such as Brighton and London. Born in Cuba into a family of farmers, Alberto has had a colourful and varied life. Having spent some of his informative years in Cuba and Trinidad, his story of learning to be artist is full of strange and remarkable influences, from political and economic to cultural and environmental.
Astacianna Hatcher
Astacianna Hatcher is a dedicated conservation biologist. She travels to remote corners of the globe to investigate the health of ecosystems and measure their unique biodiversity. She does this primarily by monitoring local bird populations by ear. Stacey Astacianna listens to the songs and chirps around her, then notes what species she hears. Generally she is immersed in dense tropical forests for weeks at time, fine-tuning her ear across thousands of hectares day after day. This information is passed on to other scientists to help develop conservation and ecosystem restoration plans. She states that the simple act of standing still and listening allows her connect with the world and new dimensions are revealed.
Beau Jessop
Beau is a 17 year old A level student whose website ‘Specialname.cn’ went viral in the UK after featuring in a BBC News story. The following day the story went global and was featured in 187 newspapers in 17 different countries. Beau’s website helps Chinese parents chose an appropriate English name for their baby and in just four months has named 237,000 Chinese babies.

Chris Dance founded with Dr Laura Marshall Andrews, the UK’s first NHS integrated primary care and healing arts centre, based here in Brighton. Alongside their standard medical care, they offer a range of complementary therapies which are integrated into ordinary medical services, and in some cases funded through the practice. They will be talking about the necessity for doctors and practitioners to relinquish control, and take the necessary risks involved to reap the huge gains that an be achieved through integrating different approaches to health.

Paul is a Director for the charity Stay up Late and the creator of Gig Buddies, a ground breaking charitable service which enables people with learning difficulties to exercise their right to an active social life. Paul’s journey began when his band Heavy Load (a punk outfit, partly made up of adults with disabilities) needed help making sure their fans had adequate care when attending their gigs and could stay to the end. Move forward a number of years and now Paul runs one of the most disruptive and successful charitable projects offering fantastic social opportunities to those who want and deserve a more ‘rock n roll’ life style!
Professor Karen Pine
Karen is a psychologist, author, professor, business-owner, behaviour-changer. Although most psychologists are interested in what you’re thinking, as far as Professor Pine is concerned you can keep your mind-musings to yourself. She believes you are what you do, not what you think you’ll do. Because in the end it’s doing that makes a difference in the world.
Rachel Mortimer
Rachel believes passionately in the rights of people living with dementia to enjoy human contact and conversation – even when verbal communication has become a challenge. Inspired by the knowledge that human interaction in a care home can be limited to just two minutes over six hours, she devised ‘Ignite’, using art and the exploration of a painting to trigger reactions and memories and so spark conversations.

Rory Sutherland
From unlikely beginnings as a classics teacher to his current job as Vice Chairman of Ogilvy Group, Rory Sutherland has created his own brand of the Cinderella story. He joined Ogilvy & Mather’s planning department in 1988, and became a junior copywriter, working on Microsoft’s account in its pre-Windows days. An early fan of the Internet, he was among the first in the traditional ad world to see the potential in these relatively unknown technologies.
Sarah Giblin
Sarah is the founder of Riut and the inventor behind RiutBag. Sarah had a simple idea: all urban backpacks are the wrong way round because the person behind you can access your things better than you. Conventional backpacks increase stress and reduce quality of life on the commute and on holiday. In less than 12 months after leaving her job with her sketches, her solution – the RiutBag , pronounced “riot bag” – was being used around the world.

Tom is a brand strategist, creative director and occasional road cyclist. He has spent the last 15 years working for well known sports brands and finding creative ways to tell their stories (a fancy way of saying to promote their products). His journey has taken him from Nike to Oakley to Red Bull, from London to Los Angeles. Also via Birmingham – the birthplace of a brand that has lain dormant since the 1950s and where the story of Tom’s labor of love begins.
