Daryl Tan
Daryl’s longstanding passion for education was kindled in SJII where he served as a peer mentor during his IB years. He has since gone on to facilitate academic programs for the Kiwanis and Supercamp organisations. This passion has carried over into his National Service where he currently teaches, and creates lesson content for the Army. Graduating from SJII in 2014 he will be attending New York University in the Fall of 2017. He is a history buff who enjoys playing football and watching films in his free time.
Maxwell Finklestein
Maxwell Finkelstein is a grade 12 student at St. Joseph’s Institution International. He is strong science student, winning the award for his cohort’s highest achieving chemistry student at IGCSE as well as a Certificate of High Distinction for his performance in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz. He has applied his scientific knowledge to his topic, titled ‘The Chemistry of Chemistry- The Science of Attraction,’ chosen due to its applicability to our everyday lives. Max also spearheads the organization of both the Economics and Science tutoring centers at SJII, and in his free time he enjoys distance running and playing chess.
Megan Chua
Megan is a third year student at Yale-NUS College. She will be speaking about her 2-month travel fellowship experience in the Indonesian islands of Simeulue and Nias, inspired by Walden's attempt to go to the woods to "live deliberately".
In the past year, Megan's aptitude and passion for languages has brought her to the Rio Olympics as a translator and interpreter. She is also the captain of the NUS Aquathlon (swim-run) team. As an Arts & Humanities major, she speaks 4 languages: English, Chinese, French and German, and aspires to be an interpreter for the United Nations one day.
Michelle Chong
Michelle Chong is known as one of Singapore’s most versatile and bilingual artistes. She is an award-winning multi-hyphenate who has hosted and acted in countless English and Chinese television programmes.
She set up her own film and TV production company, Huat Films, and artiste management agency, Left Profile in 2011 and recently wrote, directed and produced her third movie, Lulu The Movie, which hit more than $2 million at the local box office.
Her tenacity and talent makes her arguably Singapore’s most prized entertainer and now, entrepreneur, as she hopes to inspire more Singaporeans to pursue their passion and follow their dreams.
Priscilla Layarda
Priscilla Layarda is a second year IB student in Saint Joseph’s Institution International and has studied far from home since she was fourteen. The experience has taught her to look across the horizon and learn from the world around her; it has urged her to be part of and to understand the unveiling of history. She was once told that “only by understanding your own roots and where you come from can you understand others’.”
