Theme: Ignite

IGNITE can literally be interpreted as a spark or an awakening. On a more allegorical level, it could be interpreted as something one is passionate about or could symbolize the beginning of an idea- the one ingredient strong enough to change the world in its own unique way.
IGNITE creates a spark within everyone and also creates a spark between everyone. This idea of a something ‘catching fire’ will inspire teenagers to begin pursuing their dreams sooner than later. To compel someone to follow their dreams though, they have to be convinced that these dreams are obtainable.
Our Mission: We want students to realize that their goals are going to be achievable both right now and ten years later. TEDxBDSIS IGNITE will convince them of that.

Mainak is the Co-Founder of Simple Education Foundation and a Teach For India alum. He is passionate about education and human rights.

Nihad Panju

Marathon runner

Nihad is a resilient 26-year-old, who believes in the power of positive thinking and has participated in numerous marathons despite having the entire left side of his body partially paralysed since he was an infant. He started a project called Runstrong, with the aim of motivating differently abled athletes and others by example to achieve success in their choice of sport.

Roshan Abbas

Founder of Encompass

Roshan is a radio jockey, and has hosted several game shows including ‘Family Fortunes’ and ‘Born Lucky’ through the course of his career. He started Encompass in 1996, which is now a marketing agency that is aligned with JWT Network.

Ryka Mehra

Student

Ryka Mehra is a 12 year old Grade 7 student studying in BD Somani International School. Reading, dance and ballet are some of her passions. In Grade 6 she learns about the history of Mumbai.

Sumaira Abdulali

environmentalist

Sumaira is an active environmentalist, who launched the Awaaz foundation in 2006. Using methods such as public campaigns, legal interventions, and television debates she has raised a lot of awareness about various environmental hazards. She has won multiple awards for her work, especially that in reference to noise pollution and sand mining.

Tanay Chheda

Actor

Only 20 years of age, Tanay has already given some outstanding performances in popular Bollywood films such as Don, Taare Zameen Par, Slumdog Millionaire and My Name Is Khan. He was recognized for his work through the Outstanding Performance award in the Screen Guild Awards of 2008.
