Each of us holds a vision shaped by experiences. Our experiences, indelible, personal, and vivid, change the vision of the present, of the past, and for the future. It is those experiences that develop that vision into something more tangible. Because it’s not what vision is, but what vision does. Through the passionate and soul-speaking talks and performances, TEDxUTokyo 2016 “VIVID VISION” will be transforming the way you perceive your world and its future. TEDxUTokyo 2016 isn’t just a speaker series event, it is also a place where the exchange of ideas goes beyond the boundaries of industries and disciplines. Throughout the event and all the way to the reception after-party, participants, speakers, and staff will get to freely explore new ideas together. Maywa Denki

Electric company in parallel world

"明和電機 / パラレルワールドの電機屋さん 1993年結成のアートユニット。青い作業服を着用し作品を「製品」、ライブを「製品デモンストレーション」と呼ぶなど、日本の高度経済成長を支えた中小企業のスタイルで、さまざなナンセンスマシーンを開発。社訓「やったもんがち、とったもんがち」を掲げ、 日本のお茶の間の皆様に衝撃を与え続けている。 Maywa Denki / Electric company in parallel world Founded in 1993, the Maywa Denki had used the classic electrician blue uniform and refers to concerts as product demonstrations. Maywa Denki imitates a style of small business enterprize contributed to Japan’s rapid economic growth by creating machines. With the company’s policy “Do it first to conquer. Take it first to conquer,” Maywa Denki has a large impact on almost every household in Japan."

yossi 2 the future

「ストリートから東大に挑む」というスローガンを掲げ、ラップ等のストリートカルチャーを通じて、アンダーグラウンドのコミュニティとその対極にいる東大生を繋ぐ。現在は参加者同士が輪になって即興ラップをする東大サイファーを主催すると同時に、神泉地区のホテルを使った音楽イベントを企画している。Student Speaker Competitionからの登壇者。

Etsuko Ichihara

市原えつこ/アーティスト・妄想監督 学生時代より、日本独自の文化とテクノロジーを掛け合わせたデバイス、インスタレーション、パフォーマンス作品を手掛ける。家庭用ロボットのPepperに死者の痕跡を宿らせる新作「デジタルシャーマン・プロジェクト」では、あまり身近ではない魔術・信仰と科学・テクノロジーをつなぎ、新しい祈りの形や葬り方を提案している。 Etsuko Ichihara / Artist, Day-Dreaming Director Etsuko Ichihara combines modern technology with Japan’s unique culture through her works in performances, art installations and devices. Through the “Digital Shaman Project,” which infuses the soul of the deceased with Pepper, the popular robot, she proposes a new way to mourn with the help of modern technology, science, religion and the supernatural.

Hiroko Nakada

"仲田洋子/まるめがねJK起業家 中学時代に好奇心から始めたプログラミングをきっかけに起業に関心を持ち始める。シリコンバレーでの研修を経て弱冠15歳で「カッシーニ」を起こし、現在自社メディア「ROLEMODEL Okinawa」をはじめとする事業を展開中。地元沖縄を活気づけたいという夢を抱いて今を輝く女子高校生。 Hiroko Nakada / Round Glasses Wearing High School Girl Entrepreneur Hiroko Nakada’s interest in entrepreneurship originated from her curiosity with programming during junior high school. After finishing an internship in Silicon Valley when she was 15 years old, Hiroko founded Cassini Co. Ltd. Currently, she is working on launching ROLEMODEL Okinawa, a new media related company. While serving as CEO and enjoying her school life, Hiroko aims to serve the youth in her hometown of Okinawa. "

Ikuo Kabashima

"蒲島郁夫 / 熊本県知事 熊本県立鹿本高等学校卒業後、地元農協に勤務。ネブラスカ大で学んだのちハーバード大学大学院で博士号取得。現在は逆境の中にこそ夢があるという考えのもと、本学名誉教授かつ熊本県知事を務める。「幸福量の最大化」を基本方針に、その幸福量を測る指数AKH(Aggregate Kumamoto Happiness)を作成し、様々な取組みを行う。" ”Ikuo Kabashima/ Prefectural governor of Kumamoto Prefecture A firm believer in the importance of happiness, Governor Ikuo Kabashima set out to measure happiness, creating the Aggregate Kumamoto Happiness (AKH) Index. Born to a farming family and a graduate of Kamoto Kumamoto Prefectural High School, he continued his studies into his Master’s and Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska and Harvard University. Incubating the idea that within hardship, there are dreams to be realized, Ikuo Kabashima worked as a University of Tokyo Professor and is currently Governor of Kumamoto."

Ken Mogi

"茂木 健一郎 / 脳科学者 東京大学大学院理学系研究科博士課程修了。博士（理学）。心と脳に関する謎についての研究をするとともに、文藝評論、美術評論等にも取り組んでいる。講演や、テレビ出演、寄稿等精力的に活動し、Twitterのフォロワーが80万人を超える（2016年3月現在）など、その発言は東大生を含め、多くの人々に注目されている。 Ken Mogi / Brain scientist While researching the enigmas of the mind and brain, Dr. Mogi is a critic of literature and the fine arts. Besides actively holding lectures, making television appearances and writing, he engages with his over 900k Twitter followers. Many of those showing great interest in his work are students at the University of Tokyo."

Laila Cassim

Designer & Researcher

デザイナー・研究者。東京大学先端科学技術研究センター特任助教。東京藝術大学で博士課程を取得後、デザインの力で社会をよりよくしたいという信念のもと、福祉と教育の世界で活躍している。現職と共に、知的障がいを持つ成人の利用者が通う、総合福祉障がい者施設「綾瀬ひまわり園」にて定期的にアート講師をし、利用者のアートを活用し、利用者の社会参加と経済自立につながるアート作品の制作と商品づくりの開発に取り組んでいる。 Laila Cassim aims to solve challenging social situations through the power of design. Through design, she collaborates with sheltered workshops both in Japan and abroad to help them establish financial independence and social empowerment. She earned her Ph.D from the Tokyo University of the Arts and is currently a research associate at the University of Tokyo Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology.

Maki Muraki

"村木真紀/ LGBT社会起業家 NPO法人 虹色ダイバーシティ代表。京都大学在学時代からLGBTなどの性的マイノリティの権利擁護活動に参加。2012年に性の多様性を祝福する意味のある「虹色」をシンボルとした「虹色ダイバーシティ」を立ち上げる。日本企業のダイバーシティ戦略にLGBTが含まれてないことに問題意識を持ち、企業向けの講演やコンサルティングを行っている。 Maki Muraki / LGBT Social Entrepreneur Maki Muraki is a social entrepreneur who has focused on the LGBT rights movement since she was a student at Kyoto University. She founded Nijiiro Diversity in 2012, taking the colors of the rainbow (nijiiro) as its namesake and symbol, to celebrate the diversity of gender. Through Nijiiro Diversity, she focuses on raising awareness and consulting Japanese companies on LGBT equality in their management strategies."

Sarah Àlainn

オーストラリア出身。シドニー大学を言語と音楽で主席卒業。2008年から1年間東京大学に留学。ヴァイオリニスト、ヴォーカリスト、作詞作曲、ラジオパーソナリティ、絵本の翻訳など多方面で活躍。その声には「1/fゆらぎ」という癒しの波長がある。世界的テノール歌手アンドレア・ボチェッリとの共演、NHK「おとなの基礎英語」にレギュラー出演中。

Satoshi Akita

Satoshi Akita / Entrepreneur In 2013, Satoshi Akita founded Digital Grid Inc. to empower people by providing accessible, affordable and safe electricity to off-grid areas, including Tanzania, Kenya and Senegal. Collaborating with the local kiosks with the digital grid technology, developed by a professor at the University of Tokyo, WASSHA (“ignite” in Swahili) opens people up to new possibilities and experiences. 秋田智司 /　起業家 Digital Grid Inc.代表取締役CEO。電力の量り売りサービス「WASSHA(スワヒリ語で「火をつける」の意)）」をタンザニアなどで展開。東京大学初の電力制御技術「デジタルグリッド」と、アフリカで普及するモバイルマネー技術を結び付け、伝統的な村の雑貨店と連携しながら電気へのアクセスが全くないアフリカの僻地で、村人に電気のある暮らしを提供している。

Shunji Yamanaka

フリーのデザイナー、慶應義塾大学教授を経て、2013年より東京大学教授。 腕時計、カメラ、乗用車、家電、家具など携わった工業製品は多岐にわたり、毎日デザイン賞、グッドデザイン金賞、ニューヨーク近代美術館永久所蔵品選定など受賞多数。近年は「美しい義足」や「生き物っぽいロボット」など、人と人工物の新しい関係を研究している。 Shunji Yamanaka created numerous products and basic technologies ― from automobiles, cameras, watches, robots, mobile phones, furniture to the design of interface for mass-transit smart card machines ― based on a design approach fusing art and technology. He was appointed as a professor at the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, The University of Tokyo in 2013.

Toshiya Sakata

"坂田利弥/バイオセンサ研究者 東京大学大学院工学系研究科マテリアル工学専攻准教授。生体を害することなく診断できる簡便で安価な計測技術の研究を進める。半導体トランジスタの原理を用いることにより、生体中の分子・イオンを検出し、様々な生体分子や細胞機能を解析できる超高感度バイオセンサの開発に成功。事業応用として株式会社PROVIGATEを設立し、世界に４億人いる糖尿病患者のQOL向上を目指す。 Toshiya Sakata / Biosensor Scientist As an Associate Professor in Materials Engineering at the University of Tokyo, Professor Toshiya Sakata applies semiconductor transistor technology to biosensors. The extremely high sensitivity of these biosensors can detect molecules and ions within the body enabling cell function and biomolecule analyses. These practices are part of his pursuit for an easy, inexpensive and noninvasive way to monitor the body. He founded PROVIGATE CO., LTD to improve the quality of life for the 400 million diabetics living around the globe. "

Yu Makino

"牧野 裕 / IoTアイデアクリエイター 株式会社フィンチジャパンにて様々な業界の新商品・新規事業開発、PRのコンサルティングに携わる。現在は、自社の新規事業開発に加え、IoTのアイデアクリエイションや、動画を使ったコンセプトメイキング、マーケティングの研究も行う。物作りの一連の流れを自身で体感するために、趣味半分でハンドメイドアクセサリーの作成・販売をし、本職の月収を超えたことも。 Yu Makino / IoT Idea Creator Yu Makino has a passion for new ideas. He has developed ideas on IoT creation, new techniques for using videos to build new concepts and innovations in marketing research. As a consultant for FINCHJAPAN Co.,LTD, he develops new products, improves business practices and advertising strategies. In his free time, in order to better understand manufacturing processes, he designs and creates his own accessories. His sales surpass the income from his daily job. "

Yuji Yamamoto

"山本雄士 / 医師・起業家 株式会社ミナケア代表取締役。東京大学医学部を卒業後、医師として臨床現場で働く中で医療のポテンシャルをもっと引き出すべくHarvard Business Schoolへ入学。修了後、起業して医療の進化に取り組む傍ら、教育や行政などからもアプローチし、人々が健康なうちから医療に目を向けるシステムを社会全体に浸透させることを目指す。 Yuji Yamamoto/ Doctor/Entrepreneur After practicing medicine for six years, Yuji shifted his focus to healthcare reform in order to improve the current status of sustainable health.
