Theme: Breaking Boundaries

This event occurred on
August 27, 2016
9:30am - 1:30pm +08
(UTC +8hrs)
Singapore, South East
Singapore

In our first edition of a TEDx conference, students from NPS International School and around Singapore will speak on the topics that inspire them the most, engaging an audience with ideas that they can connect with. We will be seeing talks on standardised testing to augmented reality, from demographics to social media from a host of talented high schoolers throughout the event.

It is our intention to bring to light issues and illustrate common goals to unify people of various backgrounds, ethnicities, races, religions, cultures and nationalities, regardless of your background as a speaker. Everyone has the right to ask questions, to challenge, and to provoke. But only a few of those many are able to answer those questions, to innovate, to reply, and to resolve. We hope to see exactly those kind of people speaking at our event, speaking out of the box to reach a larger community. We believe that dialogue and friendships seek to unite us in a conflict-torn world, and that's why we think TEDxYouth is the right way to go forward.

All audience members will receive a collectible conference wristband, and will be invited to jump into a Saturday of discussion, of meeting new people and an exciting after-party following the event itself. Because TEDx is how you can talk about social issues without debating politics, and where you can be heard by listening to somebody else's ideas. All nationalities, ethnicities, religions, political backgrounds, gender orientations and economic backgrounds are welcome to participate in a Saturday you'll never forget.

Harsh Dubey

Student, casual debater
Harsh Dubey is that charismatic speaker that makes you think out of the box. And it's not every day that you get to hear from a student defending standardized testing. Born an Indian citizen, but raised with global values, Harsh is a current IB Year 2 student, and enjoys attending MUN conferences, public speaking events in his free time. In short- He's the kind of person that will quietly engage you with evidence, and can turn anybody's head around to his point of view. In this talk, he's tackling a major debate issue in public education today, with expert analysis, and, of course, the student's touch.

Kartike Khandelwal

Student
Kartike Khandelwal is a Casual photographer, and a Physics enthusiast, and has interests in aeronautical engineering, aero-modelling, Theoretical physics and the nature of science. His talk was aimed at alleviating the perception that vague theoretical concepts of physics such as dimensions, infinities and alternate realities are of no consequence to us in real life.

Lavanya Prakash

Student, Freelance photographer
Freelance nature blogger, TEDx speaker, high-school student and photojournalist Lavanya Prakash aims to bring out the connection between our lives and nature in everything she does, and hopes to educate her fellow citizens about the awesome debt we owe to nature's bounty through her creative photography skills and essays.

Prachi Pathak

Student
Twelfth-grader, occasional photographer, freelance journalist and psychology student Prachi Pathak has been interested in the social taboo on human sexuality for as long as she can remember. Now, TEDx has given her the perfect forum- and the perfect audience- to talk to about pressing social issues she values.
