Theme: Beyond Your Limits

We seek to push the envelope, we seek to redefine borders, we seek to modify ideas and most of all we seek to create change.

This event is created by and catered for students of the University of the West Indies as well as other invited guest. Our theme is "Beyond your Limits", chosen because we have a desire to break free of boundaries and make the impossible, possible. We are keen to nurture the idea of attendees and hence are working with the following topic line up:

1. Culture and Youth in Trinidad and Tobago
2. Climate Change response of Caribbean Countries
3. Pioneering Women in Trinidad and Tobago
4. Beyond your limits (presentation of ideas and testimonies of people pushing their limits)
5. Art of Activism and Change

Omar Mohammed

Omar is a graduate of the U.W.I. St. Augustine Campus, with a BSc. in Environmental and Natural Resource Management (2009). Since then, he has been employed at The Cropper Foundation and is currently Programme Officer for Environment and Resource Education. His work and future academic goals are driven by the necessity to make science understandable to the public, since only through a change in values and attitudes, can real development happen. He is currently on the Advisory board of the Youth of the UN Group of Trinidad and Tobago (YOUNGTT), a member of the Leadership Team of the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Commission on Education and Communication (leading a team of members from the US, Bangladesh, UK and Spain) and a Fellow of the International Professors Project, focusing on Caribbean Environment and Development.

Amilcar Sanatan

Currently a student at the University of the West Indies pursuing a major in Psychology and minor in Sociology. He is involved with student activism on the campus and has been the Chairperson of the poetry and awareness group "UWE Speak" and current heads "UWE TV" which is the official student news group on the campus. Amilcar's passion is student advocacy and exploring the creative capacity of Caribbean Thinkers. In his personal words "Things i love: working on free-ing myself, individual creative expression, just an ordinary youth concered about my future and creating a sense of urgency for the present."

Stephan Taylor

Stephan is a undergraduate student at the University of the West Indies with a passion for economics and the use of applied techniques towards the 'Development Problematique' of the Caribbean. Born on Oct 13th 1992, Stephan displayed a passion for economics at a very early age. While other children were busy playing outside Stephan was preoccupied with the works of John Maynard Keynes, Adam Smith and Milton Friedman. Stephan’s pastimes include composing musical scores, swimming, doing math and playing with is pet cat Gary.

Brandon O'Brien

Brandon O'Brien is a passionate young philosopher on the topics of compassion, kindness, faith and the human spirit. A spoken word poet, adolescent experiences as both a devout Christian and a passionate and searching atheist have motivated him to capture human empathy both on the page, on the stage, and in his social interactions. He, greatly inspired by TEDster Karen Armstrong, has been almost thoroughly consumed by the idea of compassion, and in that spirit is embarking on a religious project called Kirk Caritas to use the physical art of compassion as a bridge between activist work and spiritual connection.

Wendy Fitzwilliams

Miss Universe 1998, entrepreneur, philanthropist, mother and author; Wendy Fitzwilliams was born in Diego Martin Trinidad and Tobago in 1972. After winning the Miss Universe crown, Miss Fitzwilliams completed her legal education and current works with the Evolving Tecknologies and Enterprise Development Company. Her passion for people has fueled her involvement in various human and social development projects by championing both small and large causes.
