What is the purpose of borders in today’s Europe? Are they mechanisms which protect a social, cultural and economic space? If they really do fulfill this purpose, to what extent are the use and definition of borders a reflection of the ideological barriers that we, as a society, put up and constantly renegotiate? During this past year, these questions have become urgent, Romania included, as the collective answer to these questions has a direct influence on the policies put in practice by national and international authorities.
