Chris Van Hoof

‎Director Wearable Healthcare at IMEC

Chris Van Hoof is department director and program director of HUMAN++ in the smart systems unit at imec in Leuven and the HOLST Centre in Eindhoven. His research focuses on the application of advanced technology for the creation of miniature components and subsystems, ultra-low power wearable wireless sensor systems, and smart implantable devices.

Jan Van den Bulck

Professor Mass Communication Research at KU Leuven

Jan Van den Bulck received a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Leuven for a study on the effects of television fiction on people’s perceptions of reality. He returned to school to get a DSc in Epidemiology in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. In the past couple of years he has started to focus on the complicated relationship between media use and sleep, looking at various media, from TV and computer games to mobile phones and apps. He has submerged himself in the worlds of the police, the army, emergency medicine, and more to get a better understanding of the differences between reality and fiction. He is currently a professor at the School for Mass Communication Research at the University of Leuven and a Courtesy Professor at the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University, Indiana, in the USA.

Chair Young Parkinson's league in Belgium

Jan Vermeir used to be a successful public servant working for a variety of national and international agencies. That was until Parkinson's hit him early in life. His newfound mission is to raise awareness and visibility of Parkinson's disease so that sufferers can lead their lives without feeling embarrassed.

Lieven Annemans

Belgium's most vocal health economist, Professor at Ghent University

Lieven Annemans is Senior Full Professor of Health Economics at the Faculty of Medicine at Ghent University and Guest Professor at Vlerick Business School, Belgium and Bern University, Switzerland. He has twenty years of experience in health economics research in over 20 countries and published over 250 papers on health economic evaluations of prevention programmes, medicines, medical devices and diagnostics. He was advisor to the Belgian Minister of Health from 2001 to 2003 and president of the Flemish health council from 2003 to 2009. He was president of the International Society of Pharmaco-economics (ISPOR) in 2004-2005. He is author of books on health economic evaluations (‘health economics for non-economists’) and on the future of our health care systems. He provides international lectures, trainings and advice on health economics, health care system reform and health technology assessment (HTA).

Sara Knaeps

Ph D student researching the impact of sedentary behaviour on our health

Sara Knaeps is a young researcher and enthusiastic sport fan. She graduated in 2013 as a movement scientist at the KU Leuven. During her PhD she broadened the focus from physical (in-)activity further to physical activity and sedentary behavior, as these are two distinct health exposures. Her main research focus is sedentary behavior and physical activity, and what their relationship is with cardio-metabolic health.
