Theme: Unleashing Ideas: A prerequisite for change

TEDxAfariwaa brings the spirit of the TED Talks, Ideas Sharing and Networking to Ashaiman, Tema - hosting some of Ghana's young and most fascinating thinkers, doers and teachers to inspire attendees to create greater impact with their lives.

TEDx Afariwaa presents to you, ideas which will inspire change in the community. As Mahatma Ghandi said, “Be the change you want the world to be”, this event promises to be exciting, insightful and thought-provoking with talks and discussions which will stir up the “change” agenda in the community.

TEDx Afariwaa will put the radar on an issue which will encourage attendees to explore ideas, innovations and concepts and collaborate through networking to create change and development.

The major goals in hosting the TEDx event are to:
1. Bring together forward-thinking individuals from the community to learn from thought leaders and network with them for innovative projects
2. To inspire a new generation of people who are enthusiastic about personal and community development
3. To create an atmosphere of change in the community where individuals especially the youth start thinking of innovations and ideas to change their environment and themselves

He is a human resources consultant and business advisor with interests in leadership, strategy, change and high performance. A proud old boy of Prempeh College, he holds a BSc degree in Math and Economics from University of Cape Coast, a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and an MBA from Anglia Ruskin University. His life's purpose is to shape ethical and responsible leaders committed to Africa's renewal and transformation. He will build a leadership university to actualize this dream.

Jessica Naa Adjeley Konney

Fashion Blogger

Jessica Konney, a young enterprising Ghanaian fashion blogger. With over 4 years’ experience in blogging, Naa Adjeley (as she is widely known) has managed to carve a niche for herself as one of the most sought after fashion bloggers. Her blog, www.trendsnblendsgh.com puts African fashion on the world map, from promoting look books of fashion brands, interviewing designers, models and other fashion entrepreneurs to covering some of the biggest fashion events around the continent. Naa Adjeley has managed to sustain interest in her blog by interviewing the crème de la crème in the African fashion industry as well as producing inspirational and very engaging articles. Her profiling of fashion entrepreneurs are insightful with a great control of the English language and flair to play around with words. She is a graduate of the Ghana Institute of Journalism where she studied Communications Studios and also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Sociology from the University of Ghana.

Kofi Yeboah

Communications Consultant

Kofi has an extensive corporate communications experience in the social enterprise sector. He has worked on the delivery of communications strategy through planning, development and the delivery of internal and external communications and managed marketing initiatives for social enterprises. He has deep knowledge about developing marketing concepts and a thorough understanding of the lives of low-income consumers. He is an avid blogger and a member of a vibrant youth organisation in Ghana called GhanaThink Foundation. Kofi is the lead coordinator for Barcamp Ghana, one of GhanaThink Foundation’s programme that is focused on bringing together young people in Ghana to brainstorm on solutions to local problems. He is also an active member of the Global Voices Online – an international community of bloggers who report on blogs and citizen media from all over the world. Leonard Annan

Education Activist

Leonard Annan is an alumnus at Ashesi University College. He has a huge interest in Education and Economics. Leonard is a good advocate for education because of his continuous pursuit to develop education, specifically adult education in his community. As President of the African Renaissance Movement, he oversaw an adult literacy program in the Berekuso Township to help improve the literacy level of the local residents. This spurred him on to win the annual Dalai Lama Fellow Grant to help him expand this vision further. Leonard has also shown the ability to collaborate with like-minded people to develop such novel ideas that will breakthrough the many challenges that have hindered people in a less privileged village community from having a significant level of formal education and literacy, which can influence community development and add to man-power and ideas that will drive the Ghanaian economy and improve the lives of people significantly. Prince Adu-Appiah

Social Entrepreneur

Prince Adu-Appiah is a young and passionate African Leader, Social Entrepreneur, Youth Activist and an Inspirational Speaker. He is the founder and Director of 1Billion Africa – a problem-solving movement and organization in Africa that seeks to transform the continent through “turning problems into projects”. Prince made two key discoveries early in life; that leadership is his passion, and that Africa’s way forward is good leadership. He has thus decided to stay committed to leadership development and good leadership practices, beginning with his sphere of contacts. He has been awarded and honoured in Ghana and the USA through his work with 1 Billion Africa and leadership.

Richard Botchwey

Author

Richard Paa Kofi Botchwey lost both his parents at ages 5 and 7 respectively. Born into poverty and banished from his village after his parents died, he lived homeless on the dangerous streets of Ghana. At times, people did offer to take him in, only to physically and verbally abuse him. During this time, and often sleeping in phone booths or in the side street “dump” God told Richard to begin writing a book. In just over 10 years, Richard completed his book (The Tale of an Orphan a Lesson to Learn) and it was officially published April 1st, 2012 by E-magine Publishing. He has been interviewed on radio and TV shows in the United Kingdom like the TBN and SKY TV UK. Through his Non-profit foundation (The Orphan Trust Movement) he has helped many young people across Ghana with his amazing life story. Richard is currently working on several charitable projects and writing his next bestseller “If I were an American.” His latest book is “My shoes don’t fit”.

Yaw Odoom

Innovator

Yaw Odoom is the Founder of Bibini Innovations, the startup behind TroTro Diaries which he started in 2011 on Facebook and has turned it from just a Facebook status into one of the most active social media groups in Ghana. They currently have a community of over 23,000 users with an upcoming mobile app for trotros and was featured on CNN. He believes "the ultimate purpose of our lives is in the Hope we bring to others" and as such has volunteered to speak to youth in Ghana, Nigeria and China as an Inspirational Speaker. He is also an AIESEC Alumnus.
