TEDxXIMB shares it vision with TED and TEDx and aims to uphold the same passion and commitment to ideas in and around the academics, business and social circles in Odisha. The first version of TEDxXIMB was held in 2012 and it witnessed an amalgamation of some of the finest ideas giving a new outlook to today’s society. In line with the same concept of bringing out ideas shaping the world and the nation, the next version was held in 2015 and proved to be yet another exciting, interesting and inspiring event.

This year again, XIMB, Xavier University shall host the third version of TEDxXIMB. The event like its previous versions promises to be a medium to share the ideas that are expected to reflect and let the society, the nation and the world evolve into a better place. Be there to witness TEDxXIMB 2016 on the 24th of January 2016. It’s time to Share. Reflect. Evolve.

MAYUR ART CENTRE

Acclaimed Mayubhanj Chhau Dancers from Bhubaneswar
Mayur Art Centre, Bhubaneswar, is a unique one-of-its-kind institution in the state of Odisha established in 1980. It is devoted to the training, preservation, performance and research of Mayurbhanj style of Chhau dance. The group has been trained by eminent Gurus and has performed all over the country and abroad in countries such as Holland, Portugal, France, Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania etc. since the past two decades. Chhau dance is an Indian tribal martial dance which is popular in the Indian states of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It is mainly performed during regional festivals.One of the three subgenres of the dance, based on the place of its origin and development is Mayurbhanj Chhau. This is the style of Chhau where masks are not used. In 2010, the Chhau dance was inscribed in the UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Social Entrepreneur, Founder - Gram Vikas
Joe Madiath is the Founder of Gram Vikas. He was the Executive Director of Gram Vikas till 2014. Joe has spent over 43 years working in the field of development among the poorest communities in Odisha. Drawn to Odisha in 1971 to help communities that had been ravaged by a cyclone and tidal wave, Joe stayed on as an activist focused on sustainable development. Founded in 1979, Gram Vikas utilizes a holistic model of development, based on Joe’s conviction that every family in a village needs to have healthy living practices for an improved quality of life. Gram Vikas works in the areas of renewable energy, especially biogas and solar energy. Totally inclusive water and sanitation is the flagship programme of Gram Vikas. This model has transformed more than 1200 villages and has successfully proven that the rural poor can and will pay for better sanitation and water facilities to achieve a good quality of life.

HEMANT MALLAPUR

Tech Entrepreneur, Co-founder and VP Engineering - Saankhya Labs
Hemant is a Co-founder and Vice President of Engineering at Saankhya Labs - an innovative Indian startup developing its own semiconductor chipsets, wireless and satcom communication equipment. It is a privately-held fabless semiconductor company funded by Intel Capital and holds 19 key patents in the US for its Software Defined Radio technology. Hemant has managed the development of World’s first TV White Space rural broadband products called Meghdoot Base-station and Dhaval Modem built using Saankhya’s own Pruthvi chipset. He has over 23 years of industry experience in semiconductor & electronics product development. Earlier he was one of the early members of Sage Inc which went public on NASDAQ in 1999. Prior to this he worked at Synopsys on chip implementation methodologies and at Paxonet on PC and Graphics chipsets. Hemant was featured in the EDN ASIA Magazine as an Innovator in the year 2000. He holds 4 US patents and has co-authored 3 papers in international conferences.

MASAKO ONO

Renowned Odissi Dancer from Japan, Founder- Masako Ono Performing Arts and Mudra Foundation
A renowned Odissi dancer, Masako Ono started dancing at the age of 4 under a modern dance graduate from the Martha Graham Dance School, USA. She additionally trained in western classical ballet, jazz & hip hop in Tokyo. In 1996, Masako joined Nrityagram, the dance village started by the noted Odissi dancer, late Protima Gauri Bedi. She received training in Odissi, Kalaripayattu and Mayurbhanj Chhau. Subsequently, she has been living in Odisha where she received further training in Odissi from Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and Guru Naba Kishore Mishra. The only Japanese Odissi dancer and an empanelled Artist of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Govt. of India, Ono was selected as one of the 100 most respected and outstanding Japanese in the world in their respective fields by the Japanese issue of Newsweek. In between performances, she also puts her effort to nurture the future Odissi / contemporary dancers through MOPA (Masako Ono Performing Arts) and Mudra Foundation.

RONAK KUMAR SAMANTRAY

Entrepreneur, Co-founder- NowFloats
Ronak Samantray is the co-founder of NowFloats, a start-up aiming to make the internet relevant for India’s innumerable small businesses. He worked as a senior software engineer at Microsoft for 3 years before started NowFloats along with three co-founders. NowFloats enables local businesses to get active online presence. It provides frictionless, mobile technology that connects online consumers to local offline businesses via latest content. Without access to the internet or even a computer, NowFloats helps business owners set up and update their own websites entirely by SMS. Currently, over 70,000 businesses use the platform to attract more local customers. Ronak is also the co-inventor and chief adviser of Bolt, world's first 'smart' mobile-phone charger for motor bikes. The "Bolt Experience" comprises of the Bolt Charger and Bolt Pocket + Bolt Riders app. He has also co-designed a ‘Speech Glove’ that has the capability to recognize finger gestures and convert them to speech.

TATHAGATA SATPATHY

Member of Parliament, Editor- The Dharitri and Orissa Post
Tathagata Satpathy is a member of the 16th Lok Sabha from Orissa and also the editor of Dharitri, an Oriya-language daily newspaper published from Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur. The paper was the first Oriya daily to publish an internet edition. Mr Satpathy was a member of the 12th, 14th and 15th Lok Sabha between 1998 and 2009 and served as a member of the Orissa Legislative Assembly from 1990 to 1995. Mr Satpathy is the founder and president of DSM College in Koilpangi, Orissa, a twin-stream (arts and science) higher-education institution, imparting value-added education to approximately 400 students. He is also an adviser to Nrutingyana, a non-governmental organisation that provides a platform for talented young people in the state of Orissa in the sphere of dance and theatre; and convenor of UrJa- Itz My World, an annual meeting of more than 120 girls representing various colleges from all parts of Orissa.

VIJAYENDRA MOHANTY

Mythological Storyteller, Head of Story- Culture Machine (Epified), Co-creator - Ravanayan
Vijayendra Mohanty is an Indian writer and journalist. He is the Head of Story at Culture Machine which runs an online video channel named Epified. The channel, has a presence on multiple platforms like Youtube, Facebook showcasing animated content that tells stories from mythology. It brings mythology and epic literature to life through whiteboard animation. The idea behind ‘Epified’ is to create a mythological universe that will tap into the rich culture of storytelling that India has nurtured for millennia. He is also the writer and co-creator of Ravanayan, a fantasy/mythology comic book series published by Holy Cow Entertainment, Mumbai. He is passionate about digital culture, storytelling and cultural discourse and has been mentioned in publications such as The Indian Express, The Times of India, Hindustan Times, Mumbai Mirror, Mail Today, and DNA regarding his work. He has also written stories and scripts for publications such as Comic JUMP and COMIX.INDIA.
