Theme: Spectral Hues

We live in a world of clichés. More often than not, we settle into the comfortable lives provided to us by the virtue of heredity and seldom care about thinking and doing something outside the circle of self-profit. Only some exhibit the propensity to see a change and work towards it.
The literal meaning of Spectral Hues pertains to the various colours one sees when white light passes through a prism. Metaphorically, this phrase symbolises renewal, rejuvenation and optimism. The white light represents the prevalent obsoleteness of ideas and thoughts in any sector of life; which can be eliminated only by the endeavours of those people who can think differently yet positively, who can work calmly yet intensely, who can be self-motivated yet achieve goals in a team, who bear the ability of being the risk-takers and change-makers and hence turn the world from black-and-white to a spectral hued one.
The aim of this TEDx is to propagate this thought for change.

As a young girl, all Geet could dream of was becoming a Bollywood actress. There was never a doubt in her mind that Bollywood was where she was meant to be. But when she lost her ability to walk in a terrible car accident, she thought that was the end of her lifelong dream. An audition for a reality TV show called India’s Best Cine Starts Ki Khoj changed it all for her. As she made it through to successive rounds to the ‘Top 75’ contestants, she gained hope that all was not lost for her. While she couldn’t proceed further in the show, it helped her gain perspective. Over the years, she has learned that failure is not the end, it’s just the beginning to her path of success. She continues to strive to achieve her Bollywood dream and is a source of inspiration and encouragement to all those who have a dream and persevere to fulfill it.

A model, a chef and a TV show host Aditya Bal is largely a self taught chef who has varied interests. As a student of English Honors in Delhi University becoming a chef was never an option. Being the nephew of the famous fashion designer Rohit Bal his modeling career was smooth and perfect but one day when he felt nothing was working for him he turned to some recipe book and started cooking in his kitchen, and that was the beginning of his passion towards cooking. That is when he decided to make a shift from a model to chef. He loves to travel, experiment and is super adventurous. He goes to streets, visits homes and markets to discover and learn old cooking techniques. Popular from his show ‘Chakle India’ where he travels to different countries and eats the finest food to try them later in his kitchen. Often referred as a Celebrity Chef Aditya strongly believes in working hard for the chef part of the title rather than the glamour part.

Ayaz Memon has been a journalist for more than 32 years and has written extensively on sports, politics and cinema. After graduating from Bombay University, Memon pursued journalism as a career. A passion for sports— cricket, in particular— influenced Memon's decision not to follow his father’s footsteps as a lawyer and become one of the greatest commentators of all time, with experience at the ICC Cricket World Cup, FIFA World Cup, Olympics.In the course of his career,Ayaz has covered over 250 Test matches and more than 350 One-Day Internationals all over the world. He has also covered 8 Cricket World Cups, the 2006 Football World Cup, the 1988 Olympics, Wimbledon in 1991 and 1993, the 1998 and 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 1990 Asian Games. He has been an editor of a city evening newspaper and a morning entertainment supplement but cricket writing has never been out of his system.

Popularly known as Dilli ka Don he has devised his pranks to address social issues like Indo-Pak relations, dowry issues etc. According to Naved his job as a prankster RJ is driving him insane as he has to give in a lot of though everyday to plan a prank but then again we all know that our beloved RJ Naved would put in all his efforts to make sure that his listeners are happy to hear him.

Out of every five hearing impaired in the world, one lives in India, making it the country with the largest number of people with this disability. Atulyakala, strives to plug that gap through a process of change. A process of deaf and hearing creative working hand in hand to create awesome products that create a difference. Atulyakala is creating opportunities for deaf artists to grow, learn, share and live a life of dignity and pride. Atulyakala has initiated several other projects besides deaf artist product branding. They are working in important collaborations with famous musicians to write, compose and make the first ever song for the auditory impaired community. Smriti Nagpal was chosen in the esteemed BBC’s 100 inspirational women for 2015.

Prior to joining Praxis, he had been the Director with Action Aid in India, Bangladesh and the UK. He has led Praxis on several important assignments, both nationally and internationally. Moreover, he has also been a strong advocate for sustainable development and equitable education and has headed projects based on the same. His strong determination to see equality in this society, divided by class and religion, is transforming the crooked and biased perceptions of the masses to un-bigoted ones.

Vasu is an international inspirational speaker, a professional standup comic, corporate trainer, triathlete, environmentalist, a ballerina and has danced with the Bolshoi. She tackles social messaging through her comedy, giving voice to issues such as the environment, human rights and rape. She has headlined, or been showcased at premier comedy venues such as SF Punchline, New Comedy Comedy Cub, the Mira Guild Theater, Rooster T Feathers, and in India at the Taj Mahal Delhi, the Comedy Store Mumbai, Grandmasters of Comedy and One Boulevard Saket, among others. She is known for her dry wit and deadpan expression while she sails through the travails of the exceptional in daily life. She is one of the top female comedians in India. Her shows range from exclusively English to bilingual in hindi.

An engineer by education, Vikramjit Singh is a Delhi- based Stand Up Comedian. He is an ex- Advertising guy and now a writer and a comedian. The ability to make anyone laugh through his wit makes his humour rib tickling. His spontaneity is the most attractive aspect of his overall holistic personality. He used to be a nice guy. Then he became angry and when he couldn't get any angrier, he became funnyand has never looked back since. He has been featured as one of NDTV's 'Rising Stars of Comedy', and recently won the 'Radio One LoL championships' in Delhi. He’s a regular performer with The Comedy Store and writes a regular column with The Times of India, called ‘Why so serious’.Vikramjit’s sharp comedy makes people laugh while talking about sensitive topics.
