Theme: (r)evolution

The theme of the second edition of TEDxLUISS is (r)evolution, a play on the words revolution and evolution.
TEDxLUISS wants to bring together individuals who – with their revolutionary actions and ideas – bring about the radical change that is at the core of evolution.
At TEDxLUISS 2016 passionate and engaging speakers will share their personal revolution with the audience at LUISS Guido Carli and all around the world via live streaming.
The event will provide audience and speakers with a unique chance to share ambitions and projects of revolution and evolution of the world around us.

Afton Halloran

Afton Halloran is a Canadian PhD Fellow at the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, University of Copenhagen. She is a part of the GREEiNSECT research group, a group of public and private institutions investigating how insects can be utilized for food and feed in Kenya. Her research focuses on the socio-economic, nutritional, and environmental impacts of cricket farming in Thailand and Kenya. She formerly worked as a consultant with the Insects for Food and Feed Programme at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome. She is a co-author on the FAO’s most popular publication Edible insects: future prospects for food and feed security.

Chiara Bonini is Vice Director for the Division of Immunology, Transplantation and Infectious Diseases and Head of the Experimental Hematology Unit at San Raffaele Institute, Milan, Italy. She is also Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine, School of Biotechnology, Università Vita-Salute, San Raffaele, Milan, Italy.

David Leo Hyde

Activist

David Leo Hyde is a youth activist and filmmaker from Aotearoa, New Zealand. After resigning from his internship at the UN, his actions form the key piece of an upcoming film, titled “An Unpaid Act”, (directed by Swiss filmmaker, Nathalie Berger) which will examine how young people across the world are being exploited as cheap or free labor.

Elisabetta D'Amico

Elisabetta is from Rome, Italy, and she is currently studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics at LUISS Guido Carli University. She is the Student-Speaker of this TEDxLUISS edition and her (r)evolution has a goal: make happiness a development standard.

Gian Marco Ciampa

Performer

Gian Marco Ciampa was born in Rome in 1990. After studying with high-calibre teachers such as Bruno Battisti d’Amario, Fabrizio Verile, Fernando Lepri and Celestino Dionisi, he graduated with top marks, distinction and Special Mention with M° Arturo Tallini from “Santa Cecilia” Conservatoire in Rome. He won the third prize in the prestigious "International Competition Michele Pittaluga" and Scientific Committee of the same competition awarded him the prestigious "Golden Guitar" as best young talent. In 2013 is the founder and creator of the "SUPERNOVA", an ensemble of guitars consisting of 8 young Italian guitarists winners of international competitions. Over the past few years Gian Marco has also been teaching both classical and electric guitar in several music schools in Rome such as the Civica Scuola delle Arti, the Cantiere della Musica, the Accademia Romana di Musica, the International Music Institute.

Giuseppe Ragusa teaches in the Department of Economics and Business and in the Business School at LUISS University. His research is mostly about econometric methods, labour economics, and macro models. He is also interested in computational methods.

Nazlı Yırtar is an MA student in International Public Affairs at LUISS School of Government. She worked in consulting and human resource management positions in multinational companies for 7 years. As a natural result of being a citizen of Turkey where political and social tension has been quite high for the last decade she became interested in researching and writing about issues she believes there should be higher awareness about. She publishes opinion pieces about terrorism and security, women's rights and child rights.

Pietro Boselli is a model and professor in Modelling & Analysis for the Mathematics Department at UCL, London. After his PhD, he decided to hit the fashion world. He works with Moschino, Equinox, Vogue and very international famous photographers such as Weber, Sgura, Rankin and Vivanco.

Roberto Flore

Roberto Flore is Head Chef of the Nordic Food Lab and a Sardinian explorer of the Great North. Roberto’s gastronomic path started in Seneghe, a small village in Sardinia, at the age of 4. He encountered the Nordic Food Lab, where he is currently the Head Chef and leading the gastronomic research of this vibrant organization. One of Roberto’s main activities at the Lab has been working with edible insects.

Yalda Hakim

Journalist

Yalda Hakim joined BBC World News in December 2012 as a presenter and correspondent. She made her on-screen debut in March 2013 presenting a special three part series of Our World entitled, Iraq: Ten Years On. Hakim was born in Afghanistan and moved to Australia in the late 1980s after her father fled Kabul with his family when Russia invaded. Hakim was also a finalist for the Australian Young Journalist of the Year Award and won the United Nations Media Peace Prize for Best Australian Television News coverage in 2009.
