In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Dr Allen Gathman

Allen Gathman has a Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Arizona. He taught in the biology department at Southeast Missouri State University for 26 years before crossing to the dark side and becoming an administrator. His research focused on genomics of fungi, and he has been published in journals such as Genetics and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Debra Lee-DiStefano

Dr. Lee-DiStefano is a professor of Spanish in the Department of Global Cultures and Languages. Her field of study is people of Asian descent in Latin America, about which she has published one book and several articles. She has a forthcoming collection titled Imagining Asia in the Americas. She is the co-director of the Asians in the Americas Association and coeditor of the Journal of Asians in the Americas.

Dr. Ken Heischmidt

Dr. Heischmidt is a professor of marketing and director of graduate business program at Southeast Missouri State University. He has worked in higher education for over 40 years, 34 of those as a faculty in business programs. His research interest center on educational learning, administrative issues and consumer behavior. He is married to his wonderful wife and has three fantastic grown children.

Dr. Tamara Buck

Tamara Zellars Buck is an associate professor in the Department of Mass Media at Southeast Missouri State University, where she has taught since 2001. In addition to her teaching duties, she serves as multimedia journalism option coordinator and faculty adviser to the Arrow student newspaper. She is a former newspaper reporter who has research interests in media diversity issues, responsible use of social media and intellectual property law.
