#hashtag
Hashtag is used for tagging or searching information by putting hash (#) next to the keyword like ‘#something’. This simple hash symbol is now the most influential and convenient tool that connects the world.
#JeSuisCharlie, #icebucketchallenge, #instagood, #instadaily, etc
Hashtag was used as a means of civil protest against the terror that struck the offices of French weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo, and as a form of challenges that spread among the people by someone like yourselves through Facebook or Instagram. As such, hashtag has transcended its usefulness in categorizing and searching and has become its own unique tool of expressing personal emotions and ideas or showing support on whatever events that are happening around the globe.
This small and insignificant mechanism that was created to tag information under certain keywords changed into something special by users who voluntarily share posts and relate to each other. It is possible to say that hashtag is becoming a cultural phenomenon. Furthermore, its potential is beyond its former function and is implicating a bigger influence.
Ideas and experiences that we share in TEDxSNU event will be spread throughout the world and will connect people like hashtag, bringing its boundless potential for bigger movements and influence to the society.
