Evan Meade and Rene Jimenez

Evan, a sophomore at Keystone school, is passionate about STEM. He's been on a competitive robotics team (called the Randomists) for five years, and in that time has been able to spread that passion and inspire other teams through mentoring programs across the state. He also regularly competes in science fair, showing off a variety of math and computer science related projects that deal with artificial intelligence, random numbers, and quantum computing, and he carries a calculator at ALL times. In his free time, Evan likes to write Java code on a computer that he built himself or to teach himself new topics such as graph theory. Rene is a high school freshman and artist with the unshakeable feeling that art is not encouraged nearly enough in schools or in the community. He believes that art should be a communal experience. He likes to play the drums, read, meet new people, and try new hobbies.

Darren Garcia

Darren is a high school senior at Boerne High School, a filmmaker, a writer, and an adventure-seeker. And about two years ago, he started an organization called The Do More Project. The Do More Project aims to provide a voice to the voiceless and to help the helpless. It has been Darren's passion since he founded the group along with 4 other part-time members, all juniors and seniors in high school who are trying to make a difference in the community. Outside of the Do More Project, Darren's broader goal to inspire others to "get out there and make the change that no one else is willing to make." He wholeheartedly believes that everyone can do more.

Rooster Martinez

Rooster is a spoken word poet from the west side of San Antonio and a grad student at Our Lady of the Lake University in their MA/MFA program for Creative Writing, Literature, and Social Justice. He was San Antonio's Grand Slam Champion in 2013 and has competed in numerous national and regional poetry slams. In 2012, he co-founded the Blah Blah Blah Poetry Spot, an open mic dedicated to poetry and engaging the local community in creative writing and literary arts. He's also an organizer and mentor for Fresh Ink Youth Slam and was recently selected as the poet in residence at Lanier High School where he leads poetry workshops with students and organizes events with other educators.

Sanah Jivani

Student

Sanah is a college freshman double majoring in sociology and communications at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She was the editor-in-chief of her high school newspaper, one of 30 2015 Global Teen Leaders, a Prudential Spirit of Community Award Finalist, the vice-president of the National Teen Council, the 2015 Natural High Youth of the Year, and a writer for the Smart Girls Group. Before all of that, however, Sanah lost all of her hair to Alopecia in the 7th grade, after which she frequently struggled with wigs, self-harm and self-hate. When she finally came to grips with her imperfections at age 14, Sanah launched an international non-profit organization that teaches others to love themselves for who they are.
