In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alex Aiken

Alex Aiken is the Executive Director for Government Communications. He was appointed in December 2012 and has been responsible for creating the Government Communications Service and developing cross-government campaigns. Before joining Westminster he worked in Parliament and for Conservative Central Office, leading the party’s Campaigns Unit and the Press Office. He has trained and advised politicians and officials in countries and states around the world in the practice of government and communications.

Alex Drummond

Alex Drummond is an activist and academic, an artist & photographer, and a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with clinical and research interests in Gender and Adult ADHD. As a social activist she is a passionate campaigner on LGBT equality issues and for better understanding of conditions of neuro-diversity, particularly attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She describes herself as a feminist from as early as she understood the term, but her interest in understanding gender is much more personal and lifelong - denoted male at birth but always having felt more identified with the girl group growing up, she set about researching gender as part of a Masters degree. The resulting journey of discovery lead to the publication of a book, (Grrl Alex: A personal Journey to a Transgender Identity) and her decision to finally transition and live full time as a transwoman since 2010. Alex lives near Cardiff with her long term partner and a cat called Charlie.

Andy Green

Andy is a leading authority and author on Brand Storytelling, flexible thinking, creativity, public relations strategy, brand and personal communications inspiring audiences around the world – from San Francisco to Shanghai – to make the most of any situation to achieve more with less. Denise Hampson

Denise Hampson is a respected practitioner in the field of behavioural economics. She has designed services for a wide range of organisations including central government departments. She is the author of Desire Code, a framework for behavioural transformation, and speaks internationally on the subject of behaviour change. Denise was a member of the Great Britain Track Cycling Team (now the most successful British sporting team in history) from 1999 to 2004, during which time she was British Women's Sprint Champion and British record holder over 200m. Prior to her athletic career she was a Systems Engineer at BAE Systems, specialising in human-system interaction and cockpit design on military aircraft including the Eurofighter Typhoon. This is what started her career-long obsession with human-centred design and creating systems and services that are best matched to real human behaviour.

Kitrina Douglas

Kitrina played on the women’s professional golf tour between 1984-1996 during which time she was Rookie of the Year, twice European Masters Champion, English Open Champion, and played on the first winning European Solheim Cup Team. After completing a BSc (Hons) in Exercise & Sport Science her PhD explored motivation and persistence in professional sport at the University of Bristol. Since completing her doctorate Kitrina has carried out research for a variety of organization including Department of Health, UK Sport and the Women’s Sport and Fitness Association. Kitrina researches mental health and well-being and particularly how identity, sense of self and motivation are mediated through narrative. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored two books, Sport and Physical Activity for Mental Health and Life Story Research in Sport and has recently completed seven short documentary/films on YouTube.

Rev. Aled Edwards OBE

Since 2001 Aled has retained a strong personal and public interest in issues concerning asylum seekers and refugees, race relations and equalities and human rights. He served as chair of the Welsh Refugee Council (2005-6), was a member of the Equal Opportunities Wales Advisory Committee and was Wales' Commissioner for the Commission for Racial Equality (2006-7). He is Chair of Displaced People in Action, one of Wales' most active asylum and refugee organisations and member of the Wales Committee of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. In June 2006, Aled was awarded an OBE for his charitable services in Wales. Aled is married to Marie and has three children. He lists his personal interests as politics, rugby, football, the American Civil War and The West Wing.

Stephen Clarke

Chief Finance Officer Steve is responsible for overseeing the finances of Bristol Pound Community Interest Company. He is also on the core team for delivering the Bristol Prospects project. A Bristolian, Steve was a practicing solicitor for 12 years and partner at a major commercial law firm. He is a Director of Bristol Green Week, a member of the Green Capital Momentum Group, and is involved in a number of other not-for-profit and social enterprises including Refuge Nepal where he is founder and chairman.

Stevyn Colgan

Stevyn Colgan is an author, artist, songwriter, speaker and oddly-spelled Cornishman. He is one of the ‘Elves’ that research and write the popular BBC TV series QI and co-writes its sister show, The Museum of Curiosity, for BBC Radio 4. He has, among other things, been a chef, a potato picker, a milkman and a police officer. He has written briefing notes for two Prime Ministers and TV scripts for Gerry Anderson and Doctor Who. He’s helped build dinosaur skeletons for the Natural History Museum, movie monsters for Bruce Willis to shoot at, has been set on fire twice, been shot at once, been kissed by Princess Diana and hugged by Freddie Mercury. He has given hundreds of talks across the UK and USA on a variety of subjects including problem solving, enhancing creativity, influencing behaviours and metacognition. He is a regular at festivals and events such as Cornbury, Harrogate, Hay, Latitude and the Edinburgh Fringe.
