In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Heidi Secord

Farmer and sustainability expert

Heidi Secord, along with her husband, owns and operates the 48-acre Josie Porter Farm. Using biodynamic growing methods the farm supports the Cherry Valley CSA on land leased from a local municipality. After receiving a degree in Business Management, Heidi spent 3 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa, where she worked with women’s cooperatives and learned about subsistence farming. She returned to the US with a new perspective on her life’s purpose. “I believe farming and growing food are the most important things we can do,” she says. Upon her return, she began organic farming and direct marketing including: growing and selling heirloom tomatoes for Union Square Greenmarket, managing Glasbern Inn’s vegetable garden, interning at the Rodale Experimental Farm, and managing a garlic farm in the Pocono’s. Heidi is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Rural Leadership (RULE) Program.

Holly Corcoran

Endurance equestrian rider and trainer

Holly Corcoran is a passionate endurance equestrian rider and trainer. She has developed a deep connection with her equine partners and competed in national and international endurance competitions. When not riding, Holly makes her living as a certified public accountant.

Ken Klemow

Ecologist and Professor of Biology and GeoEnvironmental Science

Ken Klemow is a professor at Wilkes University and holds a joint appointment in the departments of Biology and GeoEnvironmental Science. His research interests include community and population ecology of plants colonizing terrestrial mine-impacted sites, wetland ecology and mapping, remediation of aquatic systems impacted by abandoned mine drainage, conservation ecology of vascular plants, ecology education, ecological bioinformatics.

Maya Van Rossum

Delaware Riverkeeper

Maya Van Rossum is the Delaware Riverkeeper and leads the Delaware Riverkeeper Network (DRN). She heads a team of dedicated staff and volunteers who monitor the River and all of its tributaries for threats and challenges, and who then take this information and advocate, educate and litigate for protection, restoration and change. Maya earned her J.D. from Pace University School of Law, and then earned an LL.M. in Corporate Finance from the Widener University School of Law. While at Pace she worked with and for the Hudson Riverkeeper and discovered her passion for Riverkeeping. Upon graduation from law school and her successful admission to the bars for PA, NJ and DC, she was appointed staff attorney and student supervisor for the Widener Environmental Law Clinic, then representing the Delaware Riverkeeper Network in litigation. A committed environmentalist, Maya relishes her role as an advocate for the River.

Michael Liberman

Professor Emeritus of English, East Stroudsburg University, Author, Teacher

Michael Liberman is a professor emeritus of English from East Stroudsburg Univeristy. His wide-ranging interests include Shakespeare, grammar, and the history of the English language. While at ESU he taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in literature and writing, specializing in 19th and 20th Century British literature as well as Shakespearean literature. He is the recipient of the university's Alumni Association Great Teacher Award and the Commonwealth Distinguished Teaching Award. While at ESU he served as Dean of Arts and Sciences, English Department chair, and interim associate provost.
