Aya El Alami
Aya is a student at Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa. Aya grew up in Morocco, and is inspired by the women around her, including Touria Barradi, the first female head of an engineering school in Morocco. Aya is passionate about improving women’s rights, in Morocco and around the world.
Ben Green
Ben Green has worked in education for 15 years. He has taught in various schools throughout the world and is currently a teacher at Waterford UWCSA in Swaziland. He is passionate about travel, has stood on the highest peak, seen the source of the Nile, has enjoyed island life and seen some of the greatest wildlife regions, while simultaneously learning about the complexity of education and researching on different aspects of the craft of teaching.
Leo Penny
Leo Penny is a Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA student. He has interned at NASA as a Systems Manager, and is a Certified Computer Technician. He is innately curious which makes learning quite enjoyable for him. With so many interesting fields to devote himself to, he was left with a very hard question. What was he to do with his life? He found the most meaningful of all careers not to be the politicians, not the doctors, nor the computer programmers, but those which seize the opportunities which space can provide (although all of those fields could be directed towards space, he reasoned).
Salha Hillal Hamad
A UWCSA alumna, Salha Hillal Hamad invests her efforts into activist work and community healing, through her active membership in the Black Students Association, African Student Association and Muslim Students Association on her campus and off. At the age of 17, Salha established a non-profit in her home country of Tanzania. The purpose of the foundation was to promote local handcrafts and encourage the youth's involvement in community building. She admits that it was quickly unsuccessful however, that experience fueled her passion for community. Academically, she's pursuing an Honors Specialization in Human Resources Management at Western University, Canada.
Tom Churchyard
Tom Churchyard is a teacher, writer and founding director of Kwakha Indvodza, an innovative male mentoring organisation based in Swaziland, having worked directly with youth all his life. He is also a director of Young Heroes, a HIV relief charity feeding over 1200 orphans, and the manager of the popular band Qibho and Sands. In his spare time, he reads, writes and coaches a rugby team. He lives in a small cottage on a river in Swaziland.
Wouter Maas
Wouter Maas is a Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA student. He has grown up in a family that constantly talks about new ideas and concepts, which has inspired him to push the boundaries of creativity itself. He likes to inspire others, read philosophy books, and gain knowledge.
