In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Whisper of Wisdome

Whispers of Wisdome is a group of students from University of Cape Town that write poetry of the difficulties that the South African society faces every day. They have performed on numerous stages around Cape Town and touches audiences with their honesty and beautiful performances.

Alan Knott-Craig

Alan Knott-Craig is a highly successful businessman, best selling author and entrepreneur. With his wit and brutal pragmatism, Alan knows what it takes to succeed in business and does not shy away from the tough questions.

Jonah Lewis

Jonah Lewis pursued a career in advertisement until he realised that he wanted to work with something he believed in. Now he focuses on creating better food providers that get the food to the people in South Africa. He saw that the main gap in food production and food consumption in Africa was actually getting it on the roads. This is his mission in life.

Leonard Stoch

Leonard Stoch quite is job in the corporate world in Johannesburg and started a business of producing electrical Bicycles in Cape Town. His belief in a working for small social changes has guided his everyday life ever since.

Mapanya Sogoni

Mapanya Sogini has spent more time behind bars than in the 'real world'. Mapanya became part of one of the biggest gangs in Cape Town as a young boy. He spent fifteen years in Malmsbury Prison and went through a self development journey that gave him the nickname 'Buddah' among the other prisoners. Today Mapanya works with youth development in his old township Langa. They provide a safe place for children and adolescences to be after school and educate them about gangsterism and street violence.

Nura Suleiman

In 2007, Nura Suleiman joined the United States Peace Corps. She had just finished her undergraduate degree in International Studies with a focus on the Middle East and Arabic. She was placed in Camaroon. Nura Suleiman is a half Palestinian, half American global citizen. With her degree from the UN University for Peace in International Law, she is currently working for Pegasus Strategy in Cape Town.

Shirmoney Rhode

Shirmoney Rhode is a writer and performance poet who grew up on the Cape Flats in Elsies River. She completed her BA, BA-Hon (Afrikaans) and PGCE at the University Of the Western Cape. She predominantly writes in Kaapse Afrikaans, which is the dialect of Afrikaans spoken in the Western Cape. She started writing at the age of 13. She is passionate about telling the stories of people in her community and performs her work on different platforms in Cape Town.

Vongayi Monatsi

Vongayi Monatsi conduct research for University of Cape Town on stigma attached to HIV/AIDS. She meets with thousands of adolescences every month to talk about who to overcome the shame of living with the disease.
