From a group of 75 ideas submitted, our team selected 13 great ideas which were presented on the TEDxLincoln 2015 stage October 1. Our event took place at Kimball Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln city campus for a day of ideas that helped our audience Re:Think their community, their work, their world.

Martini Tiny

Martini Tiny is based out of Lincoln, Nebraska. Three of the members are extended family. The combo is a tight-knit group of friends who connect through music. Hana Zara travels the world, gathering experiences she puts into her songs. Her soul and heart shine through each performance, and the emotions are contagious for everyone in attendance.

Abeny Kucha

Author
Kucha is a single mother who survived the civil wars and genocide in her homeland of South Sudan and immigrated to the United States, where she became a certified Nursing Assistant and worked at Mayo Clinic for almost ten years as a surgical processing tech. The mother of two daughters and three sons, Abeny Kucha is also the author of Tears of a Mother, endorsed by Dr. Mary Pipher, Author of Reviving Ophelia.

Alyson Osterbuhr

Music Performer
Alyson Osterbuhr. She grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and Grand Island, Nebraska. She has lived in Lincoln since 2011. She works at The Coffee House and El Centro de las Americas. She’ll graduate from the University of Nebraska in December 2015 with a degree in International Business and Spanish.

Andrrea VonKampen

Music Performer
Andrea von Kampen is a singer/songwriter from Lincoln, Nebraska. Andrea spent the past year in Nashville at Belmont University studying commercial voice and songwriting. Andrea is finishing up her degree at Concordia University and plans on pursuing performance and songwriting when she graduates.

Carly Woythaler-Runestad

Agency Director
Carly Woythaler-Runestad has been the executive director of the Mourning Hope Grief Center for over 7 years. Mourning Hope is a nonprofit, grief support network for children, teens, young adults and their families who have experienced the death of someone significant in their life. She has served on a number of diverse statewide boards and in 2014 was elected to the National Alliance for Grieving Children’s Board of Directors. Find more at www.TEDxLincoln.com

Chase Hasty

Magician
Chase Hasty started his business as a magician at age nine. He performed his first show when he was just ten years of age. Now performing professionally for nearly a decade, Chase is booked every weekend, performing for events across the United States. Chase has taken his show all over the United States performing in places such as Washington D.C, Phoenix, Dallas, and even the bright lights of Las Vegas.

Hunter Radenslaben

High School student
Since Hunter Radenslaben was 12 years old, he has been the voice behind the successful Twitter account, @AthleteNationCo with over 65,000 followers. Hunter continues to share his mission of spreading positivity, encouraging faith, and inspiring others to be their best as a student at Waverly High School in Waverly, Nebraska.

Jacob Absalon

Army Officer and Student
Jacob, an Army Captain, graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, and commissioned in the U.S. Army serving in Alaska, Georgia, and Texas. He has deployed to Afghanistan twice, and his leadership positions included platoon leader, executive officer, and commander of two companies.

Justin Lepard

Musician
Justin Lepard has performed internationally, being connected with the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Lucerne Festival Academy in Switzerland. In addition to his active performing career, Lepard is an entrepreneur, bringing musicians together for eclectic concert series.

Karla Jensen & Dave Whitt

Professors
Karla is a professor of Communication Studies at Nebraska Wesleyan University where she incorporates her love of yoga and other mindfulness practices into her teaching. Dave is a professor of Communication Studies Department at Nebraska Wesleyan where he has taught since 1991. He teaches classes in Mass Media, Persuasion, Communication in the Professions, and Songs of Ascent: The Music and Meaning of U2.

Kelly Medwick

Wife
Kelly Medwick has worked in marketing, sales, media and nonprofit — all lines of work that have allowed her to study motivations and behaviors, putting together the stories from the clues.

Lilia Fromm

High School Student
Lilia Fromm is a student at Lincoln High School, Lincoln, NE. In 2014, she gave a speech on geographic confidence at TEDxYouth@Lincoln, and she has had a successful freshman year on Lincoln High’s speech team.

Luke Meier

Mental Health Counselor
Luke Meier is a Lincoln-based Provisionally Licensed Mental Health counselor and Certified Nutritionist. His background in nutrition and as a therapist allows him to have a perspective that differs from a traditional nutritionist. Luke understands the difficulties people face when trying to make a change with something as invigorating as food.

Matt Waite

Professor
A professor of practice at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Journalism and Mass Communications, Matt Waite founded the Drone Journalism Lab there in November of 2011 to study how drones could be used to report news. Previously, he was the Senior News Technologist at the St. Petersburg Times in Florida where he developed PolitiFact, the first website to win a Pulitzer Prize in 2009.

Melissa Garcia

Economic Development Specialist
A native of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Melissa Garcia has been involved in the economic development of rural areas such as Custer County where she was integral in the creation of over 200 new jobs, and over 30 new businesses through a community-oriented and implemented plan.

Pat Leach

Pat is Director of Lincoln, Nebraska City Libraries and a true lover of books. The mission of Lincoln City Libraries is to change lives. In this short clip, she shares her review of a book she’s read in the past year.

Rob McEntarffer

Education Administrator
Rob McEntarffer works as an Assessment/Evaluation specialist in Lincoln Public Schools. He loves thinking/talking/writing about how assessment can be humane and helpful (which is often a tough task).

Ruth Searcy

Interpretive Dancer
Ruth Searcy is a 14-year-old home schooling freshman at Searcey Academy. She has been practicing the art of dance for almost ten years. Ruth is fluent in various forms of dance including modern, tap, ballet and lyrical. Since the age of five she has been a student Pure Movement Dance Institute. Ruth is also part of the elite dance troupe Nebraska Dance Theater. NDT travels every year to the Regional Dance Academy in Chicago where for one week we have the opportunity to learn from professional dancers and choreographers.

Sarah Staples-Farmer

Teacher
An English teacher for over 23 years, in May of 2014, Staples-Farmer earned a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, studying specifically the culture of teaching and learning in the juvenile justice system to better understand system-involved youth/students and their experiences.
