This full day conference will feature speakers from both the UC Irvine and Irvine community, all with an idea worth spreading. Bosler

Annie Bosler

French hornist Dr. Annie Bosler wears many hats in her career as a Los Angeles freelance musician: by day a teacher at UC Irvine and the Colburn School of Performing Arts, by night a performer of all music genres from classical to the popular fields and beyond. Bosler has toured with John Williams' Star Wars in Concert and Josh Groban performing on Dancing with the Stars, The Ellen Show, and PBS's Live from Lincoln Center. She also shared the stage with Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney on CBS's The Beatles: The Night That Changed America - A Grammy Tribute. She produced and directed 1M1: Hollywood Horns of the Golden Years, a one of a kind film doc about the history of Los Angeles studio musicians told through the eyes of the legendary Hollywood horn players. www.anniebosler.com

Bart Knijnenburg

Bart Knijnenburg is an Informatics PhD candidate who works on privacy decision-making and user-centric evaluation of adaptive systems. Bart studies consumers’ privacy at the University of California Irvine, in the realm of social networks, personalized e-commerce, and e-health.

Cara Scrementi

Cara Scrementi is an educator, choreographer, screendance maker, and dancer and is currently pursuing her MFA in Dance at the University of California, Irvine. She was the Co-Director of the After School Matters Dance Ensemble, an advanced apprenticeship program for Chicago high school students and a dance instructor at The Dance Gallery in northwest Indiana.

Chris Fox

After completing an undergraduate degree at UC Irvine in Biological Sciences, J. Christian (Chris) Fox went to Tufts Medical School and did his residency in emergency medicine back at UC Irvine. He then completed a fellowship in emergency ultrasound at University of Illinois. Since joining the UC Irvine faculty in 2001 in his role of Chief of the Division of Emergency Ultrasound he directs the Ultrasound Fellowship. In 2010 he created a fully integrated 4-year ultrasound curriculum at the school of medicine where he serves as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. He is the editor of Clinical Emergency Radiology as well as Atlas of Emergency Ultrasound and has authored over 60 articles on ultrasound including the UCI 30: a point by point comparison of the Stanford 25’s physical exam skills to incorporate ultrasound to enhance physical diagnosis. Daniel Do

Daniel is a student deeply engaged in brain science and philosophy of mind. He is an aspiring neuroscientist, writer, educator, and science communicator. In his free time, he enjoys biking, meditating, composing music, reading books, debating with his friends and family, and being alone with his thoughts.

Diego Rosso

Diego Rosso is an Associate Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and is the Director of the Water-Energy Nexus Center at UCI. Since 2000, he has been investigating the water-energy-carbon nexus and water reclamation and reuse processes. He is a Chemical Engineering Laureate from the University of Padua in Italy and earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from UCLA.

Jesse Baker

Jesse Baker earned his PhD in Environmental Policy from UC Irvine’s School of Social Ecology where his educational focus was international development. Upon completing his PhD, he founded the non-profit organization Ecofficiency.Org as a means to explore, critique, and push the boundaries of sustainability and sustainable development. Through Ecofficiency.Org, Dr. Baker initiated Project 509 as a grassroots response to the cholera epidemic that has taken the lives of over 8,700 Haitians in the wake of Haiti’s devastating 2010 Earthquake. Project 509 works directly with Haitians to empower rural mountain communities (too often left out of the development efforts of large-scale international aid organizations) with appropriate tools to more effectively address water access and sanitation needs. www.ecofficiency.Org

Joel Veenstra

Joel Veenstra is a professional stage manager, a production manager, a producer, a filmmaker, and an improviser. He teaches those career paths in the Drama Department at the University of California, Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Veenstra has managed theatrical productions and workshops with Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Pasadena Playhouse, and many more. He mentors Improv Revolution and produces the Coup de Comedy Festival at UC Irvine.

Mike Lawrence

Over the last twenty years, Mike Lawrence has been an English and web design teacher, administrator, technology coordinator and non-profit leader. Naty Rico

Naty Rico is a third year Sociology and Education double major. She was born and raised in South Los Angeles, to parents who immigrated here from Mexico. As a first generation, Latina woman with a physical disability, Naty managed to get accepted and enroll into UCI in 2012, with the help of her community back home. While her three years at UCI have not been easy, Naty has managed to overcome structural barriers and has become an advocate for the differently able community. After she graduates and receives her Bachelors from UCI, Naty hopes to enroll into grad school and continue doing work focused on the differently able community. She plans on obtaining a Ph.D in Sociology or Education, with an emphasis in Disability Studies, and giving back to the community that helped her get to where she is, and is supportive of where she's headed.

Orly Lobel

Orly Lobel is the Don Weckstein Professor of Law and founding member of the Center for Intellectual Property Law and Markets at the University of San Diego. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Lobel is a celebrated and award-winning author, most recently of the book Talent Wants to Be Free: Why We Should Learn to Love Leaks, Raids and Free-Riding (winner of Axiom Best Business Book 2014). Sarah Pressman

Dr. Sarah Pressman is an award winning Assistant Professor of Psychology and Social Behavior in the School of Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Pressman’s work seeks to understand how positive emotions are beneficial for objective physical health and longevity.

Vy Dong

After graduation from UC Irvine, Vy Maria Dong obtained her doctorate from Caltech, postdoctoral studies at Berkeley, and then began her independent career at the University of Toronto. She is now a full professor at UC Irvine where she teaches organic chemistry and leads a team of researchers focusing on inventing more efficient and sustainable methods for building molecular architecture. https://www.chem.uci.edu/~dongv/about.html
