In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Fatimah Asghar

Fatimah Asghar is a nationally touring poet, photographer and performer. She created Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first Spoken Word Poetry group, REFLEKS, while on a Fulbright studying theater in post-violent contexts. She has performed on many stages, including the Dodge Poetry Festival, The Nantucket Project, and TedX. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in POETRY Magazine, Southern Indiana Review, The Margins, The Paris-American, and Drunken Boat. She is a member of the Dark Noise Collective and is a Teaching Artist for Young Chicago Authors. Her chapbook After is forthcoming on Yes Yes Books fall of 2015.

Gregg Stienberg

Dr. Steinberg is a professor of Human Performance at Austin Peay State University. He is an award winning professor and researcher of human performance. Golf Digest has ranked him as one of the world's greatest sports psychologist. He appears weekly on XM/Sirius on "Talk of the Tour" on PGAtour network to discuss the mental side of life and golf. He is the associate editor of the Journal of Sport Behavior. His business book, Full Throttle, became a Washington Post Best seller. His next book, Transcend-Ability, concerns how people have transcended from adversity and failure.

Jenni Rook

Jenni received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy from Western Illinois University after completing her undergraduate clinical internship at Giant Steps Illinois, Inc., a therapeutic day school for children with Autism. Jenni obtained a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Chicago. She also possesses advanced certification in Neurological Music Therapy (NMT-Fellow). She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Institute for Therapy through the Arts (ITA). Her clinical work with children and adults has primarily been conducted in medical settings including the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Jenni’s expertise includes using music in speech rehabilitation and in counseling for children and adults coping with trauma, anxiety and medical conditions. She also has several years of experience working with children diagnosed with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities.

Jeremy Chapman-Gould

Jeremy Chapman-Gould is a 4th-year medical student at Rush Medical College, and a future kids' doctor. He loves making short, fun, educational videos, and he's committed to incorporating them into his career. To that end, he founded videoPEACH, a student-run organization that brings cameras, props, and costumes to kids in the hospital and invites them to create and share videos. In its first two years, videoPEACH has filmed over 200 patients, family members, students, and staff! Raj Shah

Raj C. Shah, MD, is an Associate Professor in Family Medicine and the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his bachelor of science in chemical engineering at Northwestern University and then attended the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. After completing a family practice residency at West Suburban Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Park, Illinois, he received further training in geriatrics at Rush University. He is board certified in family medicine with a certificate of added qualification in geriatrics. Dr. Shah’s academic career interest is the design and conduct of community-based clinical trials for the prevention and treatment of age-related conditions including, but not limited to, memory loss.

Tricia Martinez

Tricia Martinez is a social entrepreneur and the Founder and CEO of Shift, a financial management platform for the unbanked in emerging markets that tracks financial data and provides intelligent suggestions on how to improve economic well-being. Tricia founded two impact companies in areas such as microfinance, economic development, and women’s empowerment. Her previous work ranges from impact consulting to the development of an early stage seed fund for underserved minority and women entrepreneurs. Tricia received her Masters of Public Policy from the University of Chicago’s Irving B. Harris School with a concentration in Development and Behavioral Economics. Tricia is a true believer that technology is what can drive large scale, global impacts and she has since dedicated her career to driving innovative technology solutions to the underserved around the world.

    Nicole is a first year Health Systems Management student at Rush University who enjoys exploring the world and learning new activities such as scuba diving and photography.

    Beth is a second year medical student at Rush Medical College. Her passions include neuroscience, music, volunteering, and rehabilitation, and she is always seeking ways to merge them in her life.

    As a member of TEDxRushU, Lisa hopes to inspire the community through innovative modalities of thought. Lisa is a first year medical student who wants to make a difference and have a great time doing it.

    Anthony is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio and was raised in a french restaurant, he has a simple way of thinking, “If I don’t know, I will learn. If I need experience, I will practice.” He firmly believes that anyone can learn how to do anything.
  • Christopher Kuo
    Chris, a second year medical student, was born in Monterey Park, CA but was raised in Taipei, Taiwan. Growing up being exposed to different art forms, he became very passionate towards music, dance and art.
  • Juliette Soelberg
    Representing the world of everything food, Juliette is a second year student in the Clinical Nutrition Masters and Dietetic Internship. As she has researched and seen the understanding of nutrition unfold over time, she is drawn to idea of discovery.
  • Ann Marie Finley
    Ann Marie is a first year speech-language pathology student. Growing up in Las Vegas but born in Texas, Atlanta was the coldest place she’d ever lived until moving to Chicago. She’s been known to spend more time watching TED talks than Netflix.
  • Andrew Garman
    I hope to help build community within Rush to celebrate the life, vision and values of Mayur Patel. He was a cherished colleague taken from us far too young, but his passing reminds me regularly just how precious each day and each friend is.
  • Rebecca Goudarzi
    Rebecca is a first-year Health Systems Management student at Rush University. Exposed to the arts at an early age, she became fascinated with the concept of creativity which led her to the exploring the world of music and dramatic art.
