TEDxUMary is a collaboration of students working together to bring TED to the University of Mary. By combining a multitude of ideas, we aspire to engage individuals to share stories and collaborate. By fusing two innovative establishments, TED and the University of Mary, TEDxUMary seeks to connect with our community to reinvent ideas, together.

Amy Broadie

After spending time globetrotting, wandering aimlessly, and working as a safety consultant, Amy Broadie went to work in the safety department for Enbridge, an energy industry leader. Amy specializes in safety culture development and contractor safety management; she is known for getting fired up (and shushed up) about safety excellence and leadership. She also teaches college courses in communication, public speaking, and leadership. Her academic background includes a B.A. in Education, M.A. in Strategic Communication & Leadership, M.S. in Occupational Safety & Health, and she is currently earning a Doctorate in Management. Every day, Amy strives to take people and organizations to places they’ve never gone.

Joel Honeyman

Just another farm boy who grew up in Regent, ND, Joel Honeyman serves as the Vice President of Bobcat and Doosan’s Product Management and New Product Development Process for North America. In addition Joel is the executive leader for Bobcat’s new and transformational Acceleration Center. Most importantly Joel has lead his team on creating a “transformational change process” on how work and innovation in Bobcat will be done in the future.

Joseph Berger

Joseph Berger is a business student-athlete at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. Joseph graduated from Mandan High School in 2012, and anticipates his graduation from UMary in May 2016. Joe competes in high jump for the University of Mary men’s track and field team.

Justin Walsh

Justin Walsh is a programmer, entrepreneur, and problem solver with a knack for tinkering. Justin grew up watching his dad build homemade computers before most people owned them. It was in those early years that he found his love of technology. He also has a knack for starting businesses. After starting and running several successful businesses he went on to co-found two tech companies located in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Matt Sagaser

A catalyst for change with an entrepreneur and innovative spirit, Matt Sagaser, the Director of Bobcat’s Acceleration Center, has taken on many challenges that really define the core of Bobcat Company. Over the past 20 years Matt has been involved in many change initiatives that have transformed parts of how Bobcat does business. From innovative business models to innovation office strategy, the energy and passion for the brand and the inspiration from a deep rooted culture of entrepreneurship have driven many opportunities for business innovation and re-inventing ideas.

Melanie Carvell

Melanie Carvell is the Director of the Sanford Women’s Health Clinic in Bismarck, North Dakota. Originally from the small town of Mott, ND, Melanie is a proud graduate of the University of North Dakota. Melanie is an accomplished triathlete who is a six-time All American, representing USA Triathlon on eight World Championship teams, and winning a bronze medal in Germany in 1999. She has trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center with the national cycling team, was named North Dakota’s Sportscasters/Sportswriters Athlete of the Year, chosen as the North Dakota Prairie Rose State Games Athlete of the Year, and received the “Picture of Health” award from the State of North Dakota for being a leader in women’s health.

Morgan Forness

Morgan Forness is a lifelong resident of North Dakota who grew up the third of seven children on a small farm in rural West Fargo. His passion in life is identifying potential in young people, surrounding them with caring adults to light the spark of that potential, and empowering students to have a voice, find their way and make a difference.
