In its fourth year, TEDxGeorgetown is our initiative to bring the TED experience to Georgetown University. It is a platform for Georgetown-affiliated speakers to share their insight and wisdom. Our theme this year - Ithaca: The Road Less Traveled - really touches on education and achievement as a journey. This year's conference will take the audience through three sessions: Formation, Trials and Coda, all present in extraordinary journeys undertaken.
The title "Ithaca" is based on the poem about Ulysses' journey, the point being that it is the journey that matters, not the destination. Different speakers will share their perspectives on loving and excelling at what they do. The event will showcase what the Georgetown community is able to achieve and highlight individuals who have crafted a purpose for themselves and struck out on their own, from social entrepreneurship to advocacy to a successful career, in a way that contributes to the common good. In the context of the Georgetown Spirit and as a foundation of a Georgetown education, we hope that the ideas spread through TEDxGeorgetown serve as direction and help drive innovation at the university.
