TedxLaval is a bilingual Tedx Event in Laval, Quebec, Canada.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Emmanuel Bévia

Photographer

À neuf ans déjà, Emmanuel Bévia est fasciné par la photographie, inspiré des maîtres tels que Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier-Bresson et Robert Capa. Son attachement pour l’Humain se dessine dans sa photographie alors qu’il a 25 ans, 6 ans après avoir été initié à la méditation. La photo d’événements sociaux, culturels et bénévoles démarre sa lancée; ses œuvres sont publiées dans un hebdomadaire régional français. Le Canada l’accueille en 2006, où il étudie le portrait en studio pour ensuite être diplômé du New York Institute of Photography. Dès lors, Emmanuel Bévia devient un témoin visuel du quotidien de l’humain urbain.

Guy Picard

General Manager, STL

Passionné de mathématique et désireux de modéliser et d’améliorer le monde qui l’entoure, une équation à la fois, Guy Picard termine en 1987 un doctorat en économie des transports au Centre de recherche sur les transports de l’Université de Montréal. Depuis plus de 35 ans, après être passé de chercheur à praticien, il tente de toujours mieux comprendre les comportements humains et les systèmes de mobilité. Il est actuellement Directeur général de la Société de transport de Laval, l’un des leaders actuels en matière d’innovations technologiques en Amérique du Nord.

Jennifer Maccarone

President of the Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA)

Jennifer Maccarone is an action-oriented, results-driven leader and a solid communicator. After being involved in both her children’s schools and her board’s Parent Committees, including several years as Chairperson of the Special Needs and Central Parents Committees at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board (SWLSB), she was elected as Chairperson of the SWLSB in November 2014, and a year later as President of the Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA). A strong advocate for English public education in Québec, she believes in a collaborative community approach, and has helped organize various joint services and programs with the local French school boards. She is also a professional business owner with over 17 years of experience in Marketing and Communications.

Lise Lalande

Executive Director, Alzheimer Society Laval

Depuis l’adolescence, Lise Lalande participe à des projets communautaires et œuvre au sein de divers organismes sans but lucratif. Motivée par le mieux-être de la collectivité, elle se démarque par son leadership. Le partage des connaissances et des meilleures pratiques est au cœur de ses actions. Aujourd’hui directrice de la Société Alzheimer Laval, elle découvre Music & Memory à l’automne 2014. Ce programme créé aux États-Unis correspond parfaitement à sa passion pour l’innovation et pour la cause de l’Alzheimer. Elle communique avec le fondateur Dan Cohen et, au printemps 2015, la Société Alzheimer Laval devient la première ressource au Québec à être certifiée Music & Memory. Depuis, le programme a été implanté ailleurs au Québec.

Lyle Whyte

McGill University Professor

Dr. Whyte is a Professor at McGill University, a founding member of the McGill Space Institute (MSI) and former Canada Research Chair (CRC). He received his PhD from the University of Waterloo and led the NSERC CREATE Canadian Astrobiology Training Program. He is a member of the European Space Agency’s ExoMars 2018 Landing Site Selection Working Group. His research focuses on examining microbial biodiversity and ecology in polar environments, including the goal of determining the low temperature limits of microbial life on Earth. His research also has significant astrobiology implications in the search for microbial life on Mars, Europa, and Enceladus.

Marc Mathys

Autodidacte doté d’un sens inné pour transmettre à son tour ses connaissances, Marc Mathys utilise tout ce que les gens et la vie lui apprennent pour se bâtir et redonner aux autres. Si une part de ce qu’il est provient d’un conseil offert un jour par son grand-père – donner pour recevoir – la maladie, sa grande curiosité et sa faculté d’apprendre l’amènent à vouloir comprendre les choses. Un diagnostic d’apnée du sommeil change un jour sa vie. Huit heures de sommeil plus tard, il renaît d’une énergie nouvelle et d’un positif sans précédent. Il apprivoise alors ce nouvel état d’être et, insatiable, part à la recherche de réponses. Après cinq années de recherches neuroscientifiques, en 2012 Marc entreprend un nouveau but : déprogrammer l’être humain. « La déprogrammation est instantanée à partir du moment où l’on fait le choix de changer ». Marc nous y accompagne.

Marc A Bovet

President and Founder, Bone Structure

Marc A. Bovet is a born entrepreneur and, for more than 30 years, he has managed and founded businesses in various industries: fashion, marketing communications, and the arts. He was even an intrapreneur for over 7 years at Bombardier. In 2005, he founded BONE Structure®, a leader in the contemporary architectural field of steel framing for residential and commercial constructions, and a patented technology in 42 countries. Mr. Bovet is involved in the Laval business community. He sits on the board of directors of the Laval Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIL), and is a member of the Innovation committee of the MEQ (Manufacturers and Exporters of Québec), Regional Ambassador for the Prospérité Québec campaign of the Conseil du patronat du Québec (CPQ), and jury member for the JCCM-BMO Arista competition. He speaks at various events on topics he is passionate about, like innovation, entrepreneurship and design.

Marie-Claude Lépine

À deux ans, Marie-Claude Lépine reçoit le diagnostic d’une grave maladie neuromusculaire dégénérative. On ne lui donne que 13 ans à vivre! À sa hauteur d’enfant, elle observe le monde extérieur, écoute son Être intérieur, découvre le sens de sa vie. Sans se poser trop de questions sur le « comment », elle plonge vers ce qui l’appelle. À 16 ans, elle fait construire un ascenseur à sa polyvalente, elle s’investit dans sa communauté. Quelques années plus tard, elle entreprend des études universitaires, se marie et, comme bien des gens, divorce aussi. Dans la trentaine, elle écrit, fait du slam et voyage partout dans le monde. Pendant 20 ans, elle offre son témoignage dans les écoles. Aujourd’hui dans la quarantaine, en tant que conférencière professionnelle, elle nous livre sa perception de la vie et partage avec nous le regard qu’elle porte sur elle-même et sur le monde, car pour elle, c’est le regard que l’on porte qui nous porte.

Mat Boulé

About Mat Boulé Passionate about the human body and specialized in total postural reprogramming, Mat Boulé has one goal in mind: to rapidly improve the way the body functions. Osteopath, posturologist and educator, he leverages his high level of qualifications to help individuals, young and old, who experience joint, muscle and neurological pain, as well as balance disorders. His expertise in postural development among 0-5 year-olds has enabled him to make meaningful connections between posturology, learning, the brain, and the body. He has been studying cognitive neuroscience since 2001, with the aim of increasing attention span and memory.

Nicolas Gilbert

Composer & Author

Nicolas Gilbert a étudié la composition et l’analyse au Conservatoire de musique de Montréal ainsi qu’à l’Université McGill. Compositeur acclamé certes, mais aussi auteur de quatre romans et instigateur de projets auprès des jeunes, il est actuellement compositeur en résidence à l’Orchestre symphonique de Laval. Musique de chambre, musique vocale, musique orchestrale, ses œuvres circulent dans près de 15 pays d’Amérique, d’Europe et d’Asie, et sa musique est jouée par de célèbres ensembles partout dans le monde. Reconnu par ses pairs, Nicolas Gilbert s’est vu décerner plusieurs prix de concours locaux et internationaux.

Stephanie Erickson

Clinical Social Worker

Stephanie Erickson is a licensed clinical social worker, family caregiving expert, radio host and speaker. After earning her Master’s degree in Social Work in 1995, she quickly began working with family caregivers. Throughout her 20 years as a social worker, Stephanie has guided thousands of families through the complex process of making caregiving decisions for family members. In addition to running Erickson Resource Group, Stephanie hosts her own radio program, Caregivers Circle, on WebTalkRadio and is a regular radio and TV guest throughout the U.S. and Canada. A California native, she lives in Montreal with her family. She spends her free time on the flying trapeze.
