Theme: Reshaping Thoughts

Ever thought why the question is always about whether the glass is half empty or half full. Why not, for a change, ponder over the fact why isn't the glass of right size?

Although it may appear difficult, but if we are able to think with open minds, our thought process can be tuned to turn away from the conventional ways which we have been taught and seen in our daily lives. Could Nicolaus Copernicus' would ever been able to place the hypothesis on Heliocentric model of earth, when the people believed and trusted the age old concept that sun revolves around earth, had he not questioned the old model with an open mind!

There are many other territories which still remain unexplored which could revolutionise the human life for better. Therefore, the need for alteration of single loop mono directional thinking. The theme Reshaping Thoughts is a small step for changing traditional ways of the perspective and concepts which could lead to betterment of society, bringing something new to the floor as well as something old, but in a new light!

It is believed that a man is judged by his deeds and the deeds arise from one's thoughts and intentions. A newer & better outlook may give an entirely new direction to perceiving the things. Same can translate into actions that are acknowledged and appreciated by all.

Through this platform we want to bring out a different dimension to conventional concepts which we have been taught as children and which we carry as it is, most of them throughout our lifetime. We wish to emphasise that every idea has multiple aspects to it and mere reshaping the thoughts can bring about a major change.

As John F. Kennedy once said, "A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on." Believing in same, the aim, through TEDxNMIMSBangalore, is to break the barriers of conventional thought process and provide new direction to think, or even just to consider, for even one good idea absorbed and implemented can make a huge difference.

Everything is not what it seems but only what you think it is. Consequently reshaping thoughts can not only provide new ideas, but also develop solutions to age old problems.

Bhavna Mathur

Bhavna Mathur is the Country Manager, India for IDEX. She has done her master's from London School of Economics. She is currently working in the area of Human Capital and how Intrapreneurs impact the organisations.

Deepta Sateesh

Deepta is a dancer, an equestrian and a traveler, constantly seeking adventure and change. Although she is a trained architect and ecological planner, she has become critical of the way in which development occurs across the globe, recognizing the importance of the way in which we see the world and engage in it, through our practices. In order to explore and challenge current social, economic, cultural and ecological frameworks, Deepta co-founded the Law+Environment+Design Laboratory.

Dr. Prakash Amte

Dr. Prakash Amte is a medico who left his MS half way to join his father Baba Amte to serve in the dense forests of Abhujmad, 42 years ago. The project transformed into three: a hospital(Lok Biradari Prakalp Davakhana), a residential school (Lok Biradari Prakalp Ashram Shala) and an orphanage for injured wild animals (the Amte's Animal Ark). A recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award and the Padmashree, he continues to serve the primitive tribe-Madia-gonds with dedication and determination.

Lalith Kishore

Lalith Kishore has an undying passion for chemistry and a childlike zeal which is contagious; someone who has been passionate about chemistry since he was 5 years old and continues to be so till date. He views life from a uniquely chemical perspective; in every action, activity, emotion and pursuit.

Padmini Ravi

Padmini Ravi is an exponent of the ancient craft of Bharatanatyam in Bangalore, a performer and teacher, forever revealing a new dimension to dance. She has trained over 500 students internationally and the relationships shared along the journey exposed the various elements of dance that did not fall as a part of mainstream training. Being the recipient of the Sangeetha Nritya Academy Award as well as the State Rajyotsava Award for her contribution to the field of dance, Padmini’s name is synonymous with innovation, integrity and quality.

Rakesh K Menon

Rakesh K Menon has over 2 decades of professional experience, during his formative contributing years at NIIT he learnt the nuances of Vocational Educational sector and thereafter was exposed to implementation of scalable technologies under Telecom and Broadband ventures of Tata and Reliance for a decade. He is an alumnus of St Stephens College, Delhi and a post graduate in management. Rakesh seeks to develop technology enabled scalable solutions to facilitate industry relevant curriculums, quality standards of delivery and latest placement methodologies all converging to enhance employability.

Sachin Shetty

Sachin Shetty is Mumbai-based audio-visual artist. Drift is his multidisciplinary art project which began as a manifestation of subconscious visions and continues to be an expression in letting go. Sachin, who has a past-life history with advertising production, works variously with video, sound, line-based drawings, animation and street art that finds expression at varying scales. Having had a strong presence in the Indian street art scene, Drift is passionate about using street art to establish deeper connections with people. “I love street art as a form of expression because it is open to everybody who uses the streets as a transition space in their waking moments”, says Sachin.

Shreena Thakore

Shreena Thakore is the co-founder of No Country For Women (NCFW) - an organization dedicated to fighting systemic gender-based discrimination in India. She realized that there was a significant gap between the space of academia, where the sociocultural causes of gender-based discrimination are analyzed, and the space of activism, where social change is actually executed. Due to this disconnect, changemakers are not equipped with the appropriate analytical and introspective tools to effect lasting change. Shreena co-founded NCFW to bridge this gap.

Troy Erstling

Troy Erstling is the founder of BrainGain, an employment marketplace that connects recent graduates from the US with job opportunities at start-ups in Bangalore. He graduated from the University of Arizona in May of 2011 with a degree in Inter-Disciplinary studies, concentrating on business, sociology, and international studies. He is a spoken-word poet,actor,voice actor and a standup comedian.Passionate about philosophy and the creative arts, he constantly strives to help others unleash their creative potential and loves to travel the world.
