In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

Aro Velmet is a 2014 Laureate of Sirp, an Estonian cultural newspaper which gave him the title “thoughtful liberal”. Aro is also a PhD candidate in History and French Studies at the New York University. Even while living in New York, Aro keeps in touch and has spoken up about Estonian affairs more often than some local intellectuals, voicing his opinion in different Estonian publications, such as Eesti Ekspress, Sirp, Maaleht and Müürileht. Aro's work in Sirp magazine includes, among other things, film criticism and reviews of history and philosophy books. His innumerable opinion pieces can be characterised by a strong sense of empathy and social responsibility, or something which one might call thoughtful liberal-mindedness.Dagmar Kutsar
Dagmar Kutsar on Tartu Ülikooli Ühiskonnateaduste instituudi dotsent. Friedrich Kaasik
Friedrich Kaasik is a PhD student in the University of Tartu and a winner of the Tamkivi Foundation for Natural Sciences grant. Friedrich studies artificial muscles, i.e. devices which lift heavy weights with minimal noise. Friedrich has also published a great number of scientific articles and supervised young chemistry enthusiasts in schools, universities and in the AHHAA Science Centre. In addition to his main job, the young scientist has always been socially engaged by participating in the work of various associations, such as the Estonian Student Union, the Revelia fraternity, the Suur Vanker Science Bus, etc. Friedrich promotes the popularisation of science and finds that the best way to reach the general public is to explain scientific achievements in easily comprehensible everyday language.Gregory Ciottone
Dr Gregory Ciottone is an American traumatologist and an internationally renowned expert in trauma medicine, disaster medicine and healthcare education, whose services have been employed in more than 30 countries all over the world. During his career, Greg has built experience that includes serving as a flight surgeon for a rescue helicopter system, an Emergency Physician in level-1 Trauma Centers, as well as performing disaster field work in more than 30 countries around the world. He has served as commander of one of the first federal disaster medical assistance teams into Ground Zero during the World Trade Center disaster on 9/11/2001. Greg also led a team into Haiti following the 2010 earthquake and continues to work in that impoverished country providing humanitarian relief. He assimilated that experience to develop the groundwork for a new specialty, disaster medicine, designed to define the parameters by which disasters are prepared for, and victims of disaster are treated.Jaan Roose
Jaan Roose is the founder and CEO of the non-profit organisation Vabadussport (meaning freedomsport in Estonian) and has gained wider recognition as the young slackline pro who collaborated with Madonna. The way to the top has not been an easy one for Jaan who practices slacklining regardless of freezing temperatures or a broken leg. "I first saw slacklining in a video and my mouth fell open. The first close encounter happened at the parkour practice where we were shown the basics. I tried to stand and walk, but it seemed absolutely impossbile. Half an hour later I was standing on the line and later I even tried to do some flips. At the end of the practice, the best were given their very own slacklines," says Jaan when describing his initial experience with a hobby that has now become his everyday job. The purpose of the non-profit organisation is to promote parkouring and slacklining as a hobby and as a form of public entertainment in shows.John Bela
John Bela is an urbanist, landscape architect and public space designer, whose work brings together art, science and environmental design. John has initiated countless successful projects which radically redefine the surrounding space. As a pioneer of user-generated urbanism, John laid the foundation for the international Park(ing) Day, where parking spaces are temporarily turned into public spots and parks. In 2014 John teamed up with the internationally recognised Danish architecture bureau Gehl Studio and set up a local office in San Francisco. In her doctoral dissertation, Margot raises concern about the freedoms of the convicts and tries to envision the future of the European prison system. Margot has worked at the Estonian Ministry of Justice and Tallinn Prison, taught at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences and been a trainee at the European Court of Human Rights. At the Panthéon-Assas - one of the best universities in France - Margot studied criminology, as well as the European Union law. She has also published a book on basic human rights in prison, directed at prison officials.Mari Hunt

Mari also collaborated with the Russian Arctic National Park when doing research for her Masters thesis. This later evolved into taking part in one of the collective expeditions to Franz Joseph Land where Mari was familiarised with the local flora, fauna and the historical stratae, in order to plan potential travel routes for future tourists.Rea Raus
In her Doctoral thesis, Rea Raus is studying the formation of people's ecological self. She is interested in the factors that remain "under the surface" of our conscience but nevertheless have a direct influence on our actions towards a more ecologically balanced world. Working simultaneously in several institutes at Tallinn University (Institute of Ecology, Institute of Social Work), she is mainly focusing on sustainability and community development but also educational science. She has long-term experience in teaching and schooling and she is part of several NGOs that promote regional development and the sustainable way of life. She is convinced that one must live up to one's words and has therefore made some radical changes in her personal life to live more in accordance with nature. She is a representative of the global Humanistic Management Network in Estonia and belongs to several other international networks.Organizing team
