Theme: Worlds Imagined

Amana Academy 1st-8th grade students are challenged this year to redefine the world they live in. The TEDxYouthDay theme for this year is Worlds Imagined. Students will answer the Guiding Question: "What do you want the future to look like?" We are school that fosters Expeditionary Learning and, therefore, we have 10 Design Principles that guide us as we learn about the world. We will connect these Design Principles with our talks about how we will be the positive change we wish to see.

Auprell Edwards

Auprell Edwards is a 4th grade student at Amana academy. She likes painting, reading, and helping others forget about bad things that they want to forget. Auprell imagines a world where people notice animals as friends, not beasts. Her talk connects with the EL Design Principle Empathy and Caring.

Chiara Compiani

Chiara Compiani is a fifth grader at Amana Academy. She likes horseback riding, crocheting, reading, and taking learning outside of the classroom setting. Chiara imagines a world where boys and girls can play whatever sport they want without being judged. Her talk connects with the EL Design Principle Solitude and Reflection.

Daniel Messavussu

Daniel Messavussu is a third grade student at Amana Academy. He enjoys playing video games, going to the park to play, and sleeping. Daniel imagines a world where everyone keeps their dog on a leash to ensure the safety of the dogs and people around them. He connects his big idea to the EL Design Principle of Responsibility for Learning.

Daya Newton

Daya Newton is a first grade student at Amana Academy. She enjoys eating ice cream, playing with her friends, and watching TV at home with her family. Daya imagines a world where homeless children have shoes to keep them safe & warm. She will connect her talk with the EL Design Principle Empathy and Caring.

Fatma Elassar

Fatma Elassar is an 8th grade student at Amana Academy. She likes playing soccer, writing poetry, and reading. She will speak about her love toward poetry and how it had a positive impact on her life. Fatma imagines a world that has no hate and has no pain. Her talk connects with the EL Design Principle solitude and reflection.

Henry Lennon

Henry Lennon is a first grader at Amana Academy. He likes to watch TV, play in his room, and read books. Henry imagines a world where everyone can see themselves as a Superhero and steward of the earth. He will connect his talk with the EL Design Principle of Service and Compassion as he works to take care of the Natural World.

Judah Garrett

Judah Garrett is a first grade student at Amana Academy. He likes to play with his friends, hang out with his little sister Neriah, and help others in need. Judah imagines a world where everyone showed Service and Compassion to make the world a better place. Judah hopes that everyone leaves his talk with a heart full of Empathy and Caring. He believes that together we can make the world a happier place.

Simon Link

Simon link is a 3rd grader at Amana Academy. He likes chocolate, candy, and learning about the history of other cultures. He loves to run and play during recess. Simon believes students should have longer recess and times to be active throughout the day. This idea connects with the Expeditionary Learning Design principle Empathy and Caring, and Responsibility for Learning.

Zaynab Siddiqui

Zaynab Siddiqui is a sixth grade student at Amana Academy. She enjoys reading fictional books, baking, and writing stories. Zaynab imagines the world where there is no such thing as economic currency and would like to see people sharing and focusing on connections. Her talk connects with the EL Design Principle of Service and Compassion. She hopes after her talk people will care more about giving rather than receiving.
