TEDxYouth@HamberSchool (where x = independently organized TED event) is a conference that caters towards the Hamber community and its youth. Our event is run by Hamber students and will feature Hamber speakers and performers!
The theme for TEDxYouth@HamberSchool is “Amp It Up”. We would love to hear what you think needs to have its volume turned up, and for you to hear what others think deserves to resonate! We want to know about the beat beneath your feet — do you have an idea, a passion, or something innovative to share? We want to hear you!
By definition, to amplify something is to make it larger, greater, stronger, or more powerful; to add to, expand on, or complete it; or to increase its amplitude—for instance, turning up the volume on a radio. Taken in electrical terms, it means to make something louder by increasing the strength of electric signals. The word itself encompasses our ability to take things that already exist and make them better—the textbook definition of innovation.
“Amping it up” in the case of TEDxYouth@HamberSchool is a call for volume, for passion, for celebration, for things that deserve to be sung that often go unheard. This is about turning up the volume. This is about what we feel deserves to resonate. This is about the innovation and initiative we have taken because of our choice to amp up our own lives in our own way. You’re listening to music on your phone, and your favourite song comes up. You love it! It may or may not mean a lot to you, but it makes you really happy. It’s something you enjoy, and it’s something that carries emotion. You want to release this feeling; you want to show the world all the glory that is this song. So, why not turn up the volume? Amp it up!
