"When I was young, I loved to take things apart. Our home was littered with the dismembered remains of toasters, radios, turntables and batteries. At some point, I managed to reassemble them in working order. An engineering career seemed inevitable. For me, breaking stuff is the stepstone to making stuff. Tinkering gives you the design instinct and applied knowledge that’s hard to get any other way."

Taylor Wilson believes nuclear fusion is a solution to our future energy needs, and that kids can change the world. And he knows something about both of those: When he was 14, he built a working fusion reactor in his parents' garage.
