Michael Adrian Chavez is a senior at Albuquerque Academy. He is a youth advocate for cultural diversity and an international speech and debate champion. He spent his junior year of high school at as an exchange student in Beijing, China, where he learned to play a traditional Chinese instrument called the Erhu. Fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and conversational Spanish, Michael enjoys singing and playing the violin in local mariachi groups, as well as singing baritone in classical and a cappella choirs at his high school. In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering with various institutions, such as Albuquerque’s LGBTQ community and Title I public schools, including Eugene Field Elementary.

Tea Praxedis Salazar, 15 years old, is a sophomore attending the Albuquerque Academy. She has been Class Officer for three years and is a member of the Academy Community Service Club and Half The Sky Women’s Youth Group. She also enjoys sports and plays volleyball, basketball, and tennis. Tea plans to pursue a career as an attorney protecting the civil rights of the members of her community.
